Masking a clip in incredibly slow for some wierd reason, and often freezes the application.

To Adobe staff: can you please fix this on the next update? Thank you.

Not having any issue with masks on my Win10 rig ... what steps are you using to create & work your masks? And of course, what's your OS/CPU/GPU and number-dot-number of PrPro. Let's see if we can sort your problem.
