Question

Matching RGB colors between Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Premiere

Hello,

Hopefully an easy one! Yet can't find any technote on it...

I simply want my eps files I created in Adobe Illustrator CC 2019, done in sRGB, to look the same when I import to Adobe Premiere CC 2019.

When I put the eps files on the video track in Premiere, the colors are way too bright and over saturated.

Assuming it's not matching a color profile?

How to I get my Illustrator RGB colors to look the same when I put them into Adobe Premiere?

Thanks in advance!

Parker

An EPS file cannot have an ICC color profile assigned. Illustrator embedded color profiles from Illustrator will not be read in Premiere or After Effect.

  1. Make sure the color mode is RGB: File> Document Color Mode> RGB

  2. Edit Menu > Assign Color Profile > Rec. 709 Gamma 2.4
  3. When you save the illustrator file as an .ai file do not Embed the ICC Profile

Thank for the quick response Katie!

Should I just import the AI file from Illustrator into Premiere to avoid the ICC conflict?

Again it's an annoying issue, in that the RGB colors I'm looking at in Illustrator are spot on, then when I bring them into Premiere they get overly bright and saturated, not accurate.

Katie, your Assign Profile to Rec.709 Gamma 2.4 and turning off ICC in AI files indeed worked, thank you for that.

I've also found in my quickie fix, that when I import the AI file instead of the EPS into Premiere, whether or not I turn off the ICC, the colors match from Illustrator to Premiere. But maybe for sanity sake I'll make sure the ICC is shut off before import.
