Question

Moving clips on timeline visual glitch

I've experienced the following problem on a previous version of premiere as well.

When I move clips on my timeline, by simply dragging, the "preview" of that dragged clip looks different than before.

I've tried multiple ways of troubleshooting, reinstalling premiere, updating, clearing cash, updating drivers, using it without hardware acceleration but nothing helped.

Except one thing, that for some reason doesn't help me anymore because the problem reappeared. Resetting Premiere by holding Alt + Shift during launch was what helped me intially fix it.

Although, I don't have any plugins nor preferences changed. It was a clean install.

This is what my problem looks like:

And this is what it should look like:

This happens to both audio and video clips of any type of codec.

Please help me!

Hello @R27322444ke3l,

Thanks for the message. It’s been a long time since you filed this bug. I apologize for the lack of a response. Are you still having this issue? The team will need more info from you to reproduce the bug. Can you provide the information required here? How do I write a bug report?

I'll move your post to the Discussions board while we await your information.

Thanks,

Kevin

Hey @Kevin-Monahan

I may or may not have figured it out. At least whats causing it. I think, in my case that is.
I just had Premiere not fullscreened and guess what, i didn't have any problems. Once I put it into fullscreen the problem reappeared (Yes for any workspace)

But when Premiere wasn't in fullscreen it went away, again with any workspace.

Here's a gif:
Can you please help me out ?

Btw, the monitor I'm using is the Alienware aw3821dw @ 3840x1600, native (recommnended) resolution.

Hey Kevin!

sorry for the delayed reply. I was trying ways to fix it myself- including your suggestion. I even took it a way further. Not just trying out driver 517. xx but multiple ones, studio and game drivers. Of course, I installed them after a clean uninstall that is. However, nothing so far worked out. The issue unfortunately still persists.

R,

I think you have faulty drivers installed, according to NVIDIA. Do a clean reinstallation of GPU drivers to 517. xx. Let us know if it works.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hey there!

no I'm not refering to the size of the thumbnail. I explicity said the color during dragging of the clips on my timeline.

also little update, once again i uninstalled it and reinstalled it. This time around I didn't get the same issue. HOWEVER, the moment i switched to the "assembly" workspace it re-appeared.

But AFAIK it happened during any other workspace before too..

Are you talking about the thumbnail in the timeline?

Your <should look like:> includes a larger thumbnail, can you open up the track size on the problem clip.

This format helps the devs a lot. Thanks for taking the time to do that. I know this takes valuable time.

Hey Kevin,

apologies for not writing all the necessary infos beforehand,

here you go:
Issue - already described above. (tl;dr: moving clips on timeline is displayed in the wrong color)
Adobe Premiere Pro version number:
Version 23.0.0 (Build 63)
Operating system: Windows 10 64x Education Version 21H2 (OS build 19044.2251)
System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    - CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
    - GPU:
Asus Rog Strix RTX 3080 12gb OC ; Driver Version: 526.98
    - RAM: G.Skill DIMM 64 GB DDR4-3600 Kit
    - SSD's:
1x Samsung NVMe 1tb;  SanDisk 3D 2tb & 4tb;  Samsung pro's 500gb & 250

Video format:  My footage is recorded in ProRes 422 at 60 frames in S-Log 3. But it happens with any type of video format/codec.
Workflow details: Nothing special. Literally just 1 sequence. Fresh clean install withouth any settings made.
Steps to reproduce:
Have my computer and open premiere.
Expected result: Proper preview colors while dragging clips on timeline (refer to gif above)
Actual result: wrong colors / visual bug during dragging clips on timeline causing my OCD to go crazy
