I'm not quite following so am asking a few things to clarify.
Are you using NVIDIA Shadowplay to do a screen recording or something else?
It sounds like the mp4 has is using a video codec (compressor) that is not recognised by Premiere. However, from what I found online, ShadowPlay encodes video using H.264 codec, which should work in Premiere.
So, give more details on exactly how you're creating the mp4 and if there are any compression settings you can choose when outputting the mp4.

This has got to be the absolute worst advice I have ever seen someone give. Your soultion to "solve" this problem is to not use Adobe premeire? That's what I call a " Just should have never posted" type answer.
Anyway for a real work around solution you can try renaming your mp4 to mpg which in most cases will work. another "SOULTION" is to re-encode your video with something free such as Handbrake which will take some time but at least you don't lose your content and you don't have to through away your $200+ software.
Edit: Forgot to mention id mpg don't work mpeg can sometimes work as well, but I have had some problems with final render using the mpeg but still worth a try.

That's one option. Premiere Pro is not the best tool for every editing job. I myself had to change NLEs because Premiere Pro doesn't properly handle my media. So you see, I take my own advice. That's how I know it works.
Another option is to use a hardware recorder like the HyperDeck Studio from Blackmagic or the Ninja from Atomos. These devices record to a format that Premiere Pro does support. I frequently use this option as well.
Folks are often frustrated trying to shove a square peg into a round hole. You're much better off finding a square hole or using a round peg.

Hi FelipeG,
Are you using the most current version of Premiere Pro? If not, please try that first. If that does not work, kindly transcode the footage to work with it in Premiere Pro. If you need help with that, let us know.
Thanks,
Kevin
