Multicams from Nested Sequences

Premiere 2023.4: I create multicams by nesting the sequence and then enabling  multicam.  When I peform my first match frame on the nest, the original unnested sequence (Lee Chapelle Sync) turns into a multicam sequence.  This is new behaviour for me, is this a bug or a new workflow?
