So I've posted many questions about problems with a complex documentary project. Among them, an error message about morph cut when there weren't any morph cuts in the sequence, weird issues with edl outputs for the archivist, trying to create a new project and import the previous project (which is a useful and easy troubleshooting step) and who knows what else. I've managed to get passed these issues with workarounds and bandaids... and the client has been unwilling to let me spend the time to try and unearth the source of the problem.
I'm the postproduction supervisor on this and was brought in about 16 months ago after the project had been ongoing for about a year...
I had asked the client if there were any nests in the latest version and he said "no."
Yesterday, I was setting up the output with the new metadata and timecode burn in effect (thanks Todd_Reeder) which has been a lifesaver... I had added an adjustment track above the sequence with just the archival material and added the effect, and then was checking each shot quickly to make sure there were no issues with very long file names... and got to a clip that was not displaying the clip name... Guess what? It was a nest... He'd been editing from a sequence in the source monitor and didn't realize it nested the clip in the timeline (in certain circumstances). I'm guessing this is probably the source of at least some of the issues..
Will be checking the latest sequence next week to make sure there are no other nests and see if that solves at least some of the problems. Will post back and let you know if that helps...
