Mute toggles on for no reason

Sooooo, I ABSOLUTELY hate the new Premiere Pro update.  Its the worst I have ever used, and I am astounded that they have got it this WRONG.  So upsetting.

But I have a technical issue that I wonder if anyone else is having.  For no apparent reason the Mute button on one of my tracks keeps turning on when I am playing back video.  It keeps happening at random times.  Does anyone know why?

Hi all,

I have recently discovered that a Premiere Pro Extension named "Premiere Studio", with its Control Surface plugin, can cause audio tracks to automatically be set to "Touch" mode when opening a project/sequence.

When in "Touch" mode, any interaction with an audio track control will be recorded as automation keyframe data at the track level.

We are contacting the developer to address the issue, but until a resolution is reached, we recommend removing the control surface plug-in from Premiere by following the steps below:

1. Open Premiere

2. Open "Preferences>Control Surface…"

3. In "Device Class", select any entry that is named "Premiere

Studio"

4. Press Remove Button to remove the plug-in.

Thanks,

Matt

Did you read staffer mstegner's post above yours?

Do you have ...

1. Anything listed in "Preferences>Control Surface>Device Class..."
2. Anything listed under "Windows>Extension..."

And also, have you checked the Track mixer panel to see if there is something going on there?

Everyone's mileage always varies ...

Hi all, I'm still tracking this when I can.  I'm also looking for new info if possible.  Anyone seeing this issue, can they report back if they have:
1. Anything listed in "Preferences>Control Surface>Device Class..."
2. Anything listed under "Windows>Extension..."

Please post a screen shot of that is listed there so I can investigate.

Hi @Jonas276721292f29,

Do you know what utility or software is adding that entry to the Control Surface preferences?  Would you be willing to get on a phone call with me to help debug this issue?

A very easy solution: directly delete the problematic one( usually the audio track 1) then problem solved

This is marked as solved. And many comments seems to feel it's the user. If it is, I have yet to find an action I'm "accidentally" doing that is muting the track. AND it makes no sense at all that only my exports are affected by the muted track. It's happened three times now where I have sent a cut for review only to find have the client tell me a dialogue track is missing. I have all my track automatiion turned to OFF. I can find no quick key that would mute my track. I don't like racing to the 'bug' assumption, but it sure doesn't feel like a 'featur'e.

What you are describing is a separate issue not related to the track automation, can you please create a new post.  A new post will minimize the chance that your issue gets lost.

I've been trying to figure this out with a colleague for the last 6+ months. Indeed deleting the "mute" keyframes works, but we're still trying to figure out why they are getting added in the first place.

As we were troubleshooting today, we figured out that Audio Track 1 on his sequence is getting set to "Touch" automation mode instead of the default "Read". In Touch mode, a mute keyframe is set whenever playback is stopped, if he's been using the track mute while editing.

We've tried changing it back to "Read", but it keeps turning back to "Touch" when he's not looking (even just doing something in another program). We haven't figured out what's causing this yet.

So his workaround for now is just the boycott Track 1 for now.

Hi SuccessWaffle,
I let engineering know about your situation. Sorry about that. Is it possible to file a bug report on User Voice? Here is the link: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911233-premiere-pro. That way, the community can upvote.

Thanks,
Kevin

The Audio Track Mixer Read/Latch/Touch/Write behaviors don't appear to be working properly. The solution is as follows:

  1. Right-click on the header of the audio track that's muted.
  2. Select "Customize..."
  3. Click the "Reset Layout" button.
  4. Click the "Show Keyframes" button that's now available when you expand the track header.
  5. Within the "Track Keyframes" dropdown menu that appears, select "Mute."
  6. Manipulate the track keyframes into the "Mute: Off" position.
  7. Try not to punch a hole through your monitor.

Just stopping in to shed a little gratitude on this solution.

Thank you!

Learned quite a few things from these steps and even avoided monitor punching (I am drinking coffee though so that might have kept me at bay).

I have the same issue. Happening over and over and over. Very frustrating. For the industry "standard" I am getting pretty tired of Adobes quality 😞

I ran into this similar issue a few times and it looks like the problem happens when I hit mute during playback. This somehow will then trigger the track to mute by itself everytime I hit play after. The way to fix this is to let it play (while still muted) and then unmute it as its playing. Could be a hidden preference setting or a bug that causes this to happen automatically?

Check to see that you don't have (or didn't have) the automation mode in the Audio Track Mixer set to Write. If you did, you may have inadvertently written mute keyframes to the track.

Expand the audio track so you can see the "Show Keyframes" control. Toggle the Track Keyframes > Mute on to be visible, then delete any keyframes you don't want. The rubber band will be low for Mute Off and high for Mute On.
