5 mins ago I was working on a project. I rebooted my computer because Premiere was using up 100% of my cpu. It never did that before so I did the reboot. When I came back to the program the project I was working on was gone from the recent projects menu item and I did a search in explorer of the entire hard drive and it's not here either. Does anyibe have any ideas what happened or where it is?

When you say you searched the hard drive, does that mean you manually looked around, or actually performed a Search operation?

I used the search function of windows. I tried to update my original post but the site wouldn't let me. I found a copy of the project in an external drive but I had to use the exact name of the project to do it. The same search of that hard drive with wildcards did not work, So I do have my work back but I'm still curious why the program jumped to 100% CPU usage when opened and why the recent projects menu item removed the project.

Where were you saving the files to before reboot?
Did you not create a folder for this purpose.
I highly recommend you set up a proper workflow before you attempt any edits in the future

This happened because the Preferences in Premiere Pro got trashed during the crash you had. This do never affect the files on your HDD, but they do disappear from the project load screen.
Use the search function in your file browser and do a search for *.prproj. This will find the project files Premiere Pro creates.
