Need help reverting to previous version of Premiere Pro!

I updated to the 2018 version of Premiere. Had the Dolby Audio issue, since I'm on Windows 7. When I clicked the drop down menu and hit "Other Versions", I hit the most recent one, which was the one I wanted. Downloaded it, no problem. Tried to open Premiere, but still opened 2018 version. Went to Adobe's website, downloaded the previous version, and tried to set it up. The setup program gave me an error which said that I needed to extract the files before I ran the installer, and after I did, it said that "the installer may be damaged" and told me to re download. Did so, same error. HELP!

Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble just reinstalling the software. Like Ann Bens mentioned, try use the Cleaner tool. So, first, do an uninstall of Premiere, then run the cleaner tool. Then you should run the Premiere CC 2017 installer. It may extract files first but then should install the software. I have done this before with other CC products, not Premiere but would expect the results to be the same. If anything odd happens, take screenshots to share to help explain what's going on

You should be able tpo find and install previous versions of Creative Cloud applications through the Creative Cloud desktop app.

1. Click the Creative Cloud icon, located in the taskbar (Windows) or Apple menu bar (Mac OS), to open the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app. If it’s not already selected, click the Apps tab at the top of the window.

2. In the Find Additional Apps section, choose Previous Versions > View Previous Versions.

Surprisingly, Other Versions only lists 6.0 and 7.0.  Nothing past that.

I see that on my end too. Not sure why it is not showing other versions. In the link below from Adobe, the screenshot shows more versions of Premiere:

Here are some other links that may be useful. The second has the links to CC app installers:

Thanks, Dean, but I've tried that... (and have seen that website!) After I installed the version I wanted, I tried to open Premiere, but it still went to the 2018 version...

How are you trying to open it? Go to the version you want and open it; not from a shortcut or project file.

Ann, when rolling back, does the user need to uninstall the 2018 version?

What other version list?

Did you download from the link I gave you?

When installed you need to check which icon you are using to start up.

Open the program first then the project.

Previous versions list.

Yes, I've already tried doing so and have gotten an error.

Yep, going first to Premiere, then to my project... Which then needs to be converted into the newer version, which shows that I'm still in 2018...

To clarify, did you uninstall Premiere 2018 and then install an earlier version? If so, what version did you install?

When you installed the earlier version, did you start it from the Windows start menu? If so, what version does it show when you search Premiere?

When you opened this reinstalled Premiere, you then go to open your project and it says the file is too new to be opened. Is this right? If so, you could have been successful in installing an earlier version but your file has been saved for a later one. For example, you saved the file in Premiere CC 2017 but tried to open it in CC 2016. I've even seen a later version of Premiere CC 2017 not being able to open an earlier version Premiere CC 2017 project file.

First I tried by going to Adobe's website and downloading the previous version (latest 2017 release), but then went through the Adobe shortcut I have on my desktop and downloading the same one there, but never removed 2018.

It shows "Premiere Pro CC 2018" and then just "Premiere Pro CC." Not sure if I did it from the start menu...

I actually went to the original (the update had me make another and then I realized that I had a big issue) and it said it was too old.

Thanks for the continued support!

Actually, to clarify, on the Adobe startup menu (shortcut) I downloaded the most recent option out of the two, which was something like CC v 7.

Just opened up an autosave, and it turns out I did successfully go back to a previous version of Premiere, only it was a version from ~2013... Don't know how to get the 2017 version, since when I tried running the launcher, I had a bunch of errors...

Dean, I don't know how many times I've done that... When I do it, Windows tells me I need to unpack the .ZIP file before I open it to get to the launcher. After I do so, It asks me the same thing. Tried it again, same result! I then just hit the "open anyway" button, and after I tried to run the launcher, it said to "reinstall the launcher, as it may be damaged." How should I go about doing this? And do I need to delete 2018? If so, how?

Thanks, Dean. I'll run the cleaner tomorrow, but I've uninstalled both the old version I didn't want, and 2018. Without running the cleaner, I tried to open the launcher, but it still gave me the error... Fingers crossed!

Hi Arlington,

To go back versions you can export to XML. So, in Premiere 2018, select:

- File > Export > Final Cut Pro XML

Then open that XML in Premiere 2017.

Note, some features may not carry across perfectly.
