Question

Need to export closed captions (cea-708) - do I have to export it with the video?

I just want a sidecar srt file of captions I made for a 1 hr 25 minute movie, but for some reason doing just Export > Captions, it doesn't give me what I need.

I tried exporting just a few minutes of content through Export > Media and I get an mp4.srt file that seems to work, but I want to avoid exporting for hours if I don't need to. Any suggestions?

Let me know if there is any more info I should provide.

Hi kapnorahs,

With your caption selected in your Project Panel, you can go to File > Export > Captions... Select the caption format that you prefer. Zip, zap, done!

Do you know if there is a length limit to exporting captions? If I export that way it looks like it only exports the first 3 minutes

Hmm, good question. When I exported them in a test, it exported the entire caption file from my projects panel. Do you have more than one closed caption file in your project over the course of 1 hour 25 minutes? Or is it just one closed caption file that covers 1 hour 25 minutes?

On a side note, before I discovered this quicker method that I suggested, I used to go to File > Export > Media, and then just uncheck the Video. So basically I would just export the audio with a sidecar srt file of captions. If for some reason my first suggestion doesn't work, you can always just do this and then delete the audio file.
