I'm not sure whether this is a CC2018 issue or not, but I don't seem to remember an uneven padding between top and bottom in the Open Captions?

Hi kjetils30485119,
What is the source of your captions?
Is it possible to share that captions file so that I can test it?
Thanks,
Kulpreet Singh

Hi Mr. Singh,
The source is a Open Caption file, not sure I am able to send you this?

Create new Open Caption
Place it in a timeline. Padding looks like this.

Changing the font to e.g. Open Sans seems to correct it.
Maybe a problem with Helvetica, which is the default.
Arial also a bit off in padding top?

Adobe Clean seems more centered.

Do you see the problem?
Cheers.

Same problem here, regardless of the font choice. On the latest Premiere CC 12.1.1 (Build 10) on Mac.

I thought I would add that I was doing another test this morning and simply hitting the plus sign in the Captions panel to create a new caption/subtitle, boom, serious error crash. No reason given in the Adobe popup, just "requires...Premiere Pro CC to shut down...". I haven't had a serious error crash in well over a year. (Mac Sierra 10.12.6, Premiere 12.1.1)
I don't think I will be using Captions for now. I think I remember seeing a plugin from FX Factory specifically for subtitles. Maybe that's one option in addition to going back to the Essential Graphics panel.

Try changing the Edge to 0. That seems to even out the padding (for Verdana font at least). But be aware that doing that would make the text "aliased".
