Opening PC projects on MAC and vice versa - broken network share links - relink media

Hello,

recently we moved from MAC to Windows.

When we open a MAC project on Windows we need to relink all network resources and vice versa.

Is there a way to properly set up the network path so it's compatible for both MAC and WINDOWS?

Hi,

relink.png

The generally recommended set-up for InDesign files that have to travel "a lot" is to have them in a folder which has inside another folder with the linked assets in it. So, when the work changes its place, the relationships with its linked files does not change (because they are in a subfolder of its own folder). That's the structure that all "go to print" packages use.

If anyway you need to relink files many times for any reason, you might use a "relink" script like this one: https://creativepro.com/a-script-for-relinking-images/

As you are newbie in a Windows environment, just one thing: Windows "maps" servers or disks to letters and some users may have one disk assigned a letter and some others may have that same disk assigned (mapped) another letter. That would mean for InDesign that they are linked to different units (and they are not). So, InDesign might mark some linked files as "missing".

No worries. You can assign (map) different letters to the same server, folder or unit. That is, if some people use R and some othe use Y for "MyServer/Myfolder", you can map "MyServer/Myfolder" twice, one as R and another as Y at the same time.

Knowing this tiny detail has saved me a lot of time and hair-pulling

Best regards

This is the InDesign forum, but your screenshots were made, I guess, in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Hi,

that is correct. We have the same issue in Adobe Premiere Pro and Indesign.

I guess we need to rework the folder layout of our projects.

I am guessing your files are buried too deep.

Check out this script. In the dialog box, you have to enter only the part of the path that is different.
