Overlays on text, graphics and captions

Hello, I'm trying to add a film effect overlay that goes over not only the image, but also the text, graphics and subtitles/captions. So it looks like film with burned in subtitles that's aged. I've been looking for a while but can't find a way to make an overlay effect the text as well as the image, does anyone know how?

Also I found most fake film grains and dust/scratches look great over images, but when it comes to graphics they look a bit fake, the lines of the graphics stay very sharp and seem fake in contrast to the grain, the way that the grain sits over different colours is so noticably different when it comes to flat graphics. If someone has found a good method I'd be so grateful to hear it!
