P: Boris Plugin causing Premiere Pro Crash on Launch

Hi, while I was working on a project Premiere Pro suddenly quit. Then I tried to reopen the project where I saved off, but it wouldn't load. I updated PR and tried again and it didn't work again. I tried opening the other projects but same result once more. I tried to reset the app preferences, clear the cache etc. nothing worked. Then I launched it with "disable third-party plugins" option and it worked. But right after I closed it, this time the program itself stopped LAUNCHING. And I don't know why. I downgraded PR just to test it again but it never launches. Just gets stuck at the launching screen with the artwork right before it crashes. I'd appreciate any help as the project was very important for me.

My specs:

12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-12650H (16 CPUs), ~2.3GHz

16384MB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU

Apparently, the problem is with the Boris FX Sapphire plugins. I have tried to install their 2023 and 2024 versions of the plugin and none of them work. Premiere fails to load those exact plugins. And TBH I need those plugins to work on my project. IDK if anyone could help 😕

I'm on a mac and had the same issue with Boris CC suddenly crashing Premiere and then not allowing me to re-open the program.

I am having some success after uninstalling all Boris and Sapphire plugins and removing all traces of the program from Media Core.

Make sure you delete the Premiere plugin cache (holding the Option (Alt) key while opening the program - it'll bring up a dialog box - select "Clear Media Cache" and click "OK". This will delete all media cache files)

I also have the exact same question.  Suddenly Boris is crashing my Premiere. I was using them and now they're crashing all versions of the program.  Did anyone find a solution?

I have a 2023 Mac Studio M2 Max 64GB, two weeks ago I was using Premiere without issue. I relocated from North Carolina to Florida, unplugged my computer and took it with me. Didn't set it up for two weeks. Finally yesterday, I did. First thing I did was attempt to open a Premiere Project I had been working on before I left. Starts to load, then Premiere crashes. I try a different project on the same hard drive, same thing. I try projects stored on two other hard drives, same thing.

I am able to create new projects without issue. But when I try to import one of the projects I am trying to open into a new project, crash.

During the past two weeks I have been using my Premiere on my PC to edit. So I attempted to load a project that I was recently working on on PC, it crashed.

I cleared the media cache. I updated Premiere from 24 to 25. I update my OS to Sequoia 15. The issue persists. I uninstalled/reinstalled Premiere. Then all the apps. Then I completely wiped Creative Cloud, all apps and presets, plugins, etc and reinstalled. Still the issue persists.

I had someone at Adobe take over my computer to try to fix. They could not.

Where it stands now is I have hundreds of Premiere projects spanning years, across all of my drives, that just won't open. It's a real problem. Anybody have any ideas?

Discovered it was indeed a Plug-in (BorisFX Crumplepop) that though deleted, had not been disabled in the plug-in manager.

Make sure you delete the Premiere plugin cache (holding the Option (Alt) key while opening the program - it'll bring up a dialog box - select "Clear Media Cache" and click "OK". This will delete all media cache files)

Next, depending on what version OS you're on -

Navicate to Go > Go to Folder >  and paste one of these paths, depending on what version OS you're on:

  • /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore
  • /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/CS6/MediaCore
  • /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS6/Common

Delete the Boris folder and restart your computer.  Open Premiere to make sure it's working.  Close it out and then start re-installing Boris, Sapphire, Etc. Try opening Premiere on each install to make sure it's still opening and to help identify the problematic plugin - but hopefully, Premiere will now open for you. It opened for me.

Good luck.

- Macbook Pro 2018 T2
- Intel i7 Seis nucleos 2,2
- GPU Radeon Pro 555X 4GB / Intel UHD 630
- RAM 16GB

Ya he reinstalado todo y sigo con el mismo problema.

Encontre la solucion, en mi caso era porque tenia unos complementos que ocasionaban conflictos con la actualización, "BCC continum", los desinstale y corre normal el premiere 25.

Atte.

BorisFX is also crashing on other programs like DaVinci Resolve, it's squarely a BFX issue. I hate that I paid money to access a product that either doesn't work at all or, well, still doesn't work at all even if it pretends like it does. I was using the AudioDenoise complete to try to "fix" some audio that was shot at way too low input gain, and every single tool in the suite adds a disgusting click noise every second and there's no way to remove it. Their AI is broken and they keep selling subscriptions. Waste of money and time. I've had better results with Supertone CLEAR, consider that instead of BFX for audio solutions.
