Panasonic GH5 footage glitching

Community Beginner ,

Hi all!

I have just finished shooting two music videos on a GH5 camera, shot in 4k, mostly 25 fps, v-log, and I'm coming across a problem I haven't before in Premiere. I am 100% certain there is nothing wrong with the footage as it plays back fine in wmp and was working on my friend's Mac. However, when in Premiere on my own desktop the footage glitches (from both shoots) and tends to be more noticeable where there is a bit more camera movement. I'm currently running the latest version of Premiere (22.2) and have tried the latest Beta version as well as an older version. none seem to work. My Pc specs are R9 3900x, nvidia rtx 3060, 32gb ram with a 1tb hdd and a 25o gb ssd. my pc hasn't struggled before. the footage was recorded in mp4 format for compatibility. please help, I am extremely concerned and not sure what else to try.

Hi Joe,

Thanks for your message. Is the footage 4:2:2 10-bit? If so, that could be the issue. Few computers can play that stuff back, like, only 11th and 12th gen Intel iGPUs can handle it. AMD? Not so much. I recommend transcoding it or creating proxies to work with Premiere Pro. If it was "working" on a friend's Mac, was it in FCP X, where the footage is automatically proxied? Just do the same in Premiere Pro, and you'll be fine.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

i have tried proxying the footage to h.264 low res and still had the issue. Is there a different setting i should try? I believe the footage is 4:2:2 10 bit and have done other videos with these settings and not had an issue. Does it not happen every time?

Cheers,

Joe
