Performance after 10 effects on one nested sequence

I have spent the last 5 hours, including two phone calls with the adobe help team, and I am still no closer to being able to work out what is wrong so that i can finish a film that's due on Monday. If anyone could help me I would be really grateful.

Premiere pro starts going very slowly after about the 10th crop effect. Why does it say premiere pro is only using 1gb Ram when it has 32gb? Is there anyway i can speed up my workflow with the crop tool?

Here are my specs:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014)

4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4 GB

500GB SSD internal, with OS and Creative Cloud installed

1tb SSD external via USB 3.0, with media, cache, scratch, project all loaded on

26GB Ram allocated with optimized rendering to Memory. 

I'm using pro res proxies, and 1/4 playback.

Currently running Premiere pro 2020 - would premiere 13 be better? 

Also i just looked at the allocated memory on after effects and after effects gets the full whack whereas premiere pro doesn't, it only gets 7gb. 

Sorry for the fragmented post but that's what it feels like having found no solutions for all this time

Your graphics card can handle but so many effects. 15 is imo rather much.

I would use masks from opacity instead.

Hi Ann thanks for getting back to me. I see that could work, however i want to get an effect which you do get with crop, where you can keyframe the left or right percentage, so that the mask becomes clear as a wipe - could you do that with opacity?

Basically i have two pictures one on top of the other, the one on top is a blank blue canvas, and the one below is a paitned canvas. My idea was to crop the blank canvas using keyframes to reveal the painting below, in parts. Could i do that with opacity?

Especially with a linear wipe? If you have any answers id so appreciate them!

Yes you can do all that.

But I was thinking of reveal with paint splatters.

You might want to consider using black and white mattes, and use the Track Matte Key.
