playback barely works in multicam view

Enthusiast ,
Sep 14, 2019 Sep 14, 2019

whenever i do multicam edits the playback barely works at all

im working with 25fps 1080p footage,  and anywhere from 5 - 9 cameras.

H.264 footage, with no color grades or effects at this point in the edit.

it barely plays back at all, i have to stop it every half a second and wait in order to play it again.

its workable, but very unpleasant to use, and hampers the editing abilitiy aswell.

any ideas how i can improve this? i have the program monitor set to 1/4 which helps a little, but not a whole lot.

system (proteus IV laptop)

Windows 10 64bit

i7 -7820HK CPU @2.90ghz

Nvidia GTX1060

6 gb graphics ram

32 Ram

You would start showing us the tech specs of your system and video container and codec. Depending of this maybe you have to work with Proxies.

Might want to consider Proxies or convert footage to a more manageable format.

It is quite rare what is happening because you have good features in your system. Are you working with an external hard drive?

they call it a hybrid drive, whatever that means. i have an SSD aswell but only 250GB, i could put it there to check if that makes a difference, but its not always practical to do that

Do it! And you will notice the difference. Remember that you are reading up to 9 videos at the same time and you need a lot of datarate.

I dont think its a great idea to put media on the same drive as your OS (assuming its the ssd).

I would go with a smart render workflow, thats what i used in TV shows I match my preview codec to  the one from my proxys and runs smoothly.
