1. Delete all your preview and render files

2. Clear your Media Cache

3. Restart Premiere Pro and restart your render and export

I read the blog post, still not working. I'll answer these questions:

  • What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CC 2015.2 (9.2)).
    • 12.1
  • Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
    • Yes
  • What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.10.5"---not just "Mac".
    • MAC OSX v10.13.4 (17E199)
  • What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".
    • I have a time-lapse that started as a screen recording of me retouching a photo. Recorded in Screenflow and then I slowed the footage down, exported as Apple ProRes, reimported, slowed it down again, exported as Apple ProRes and placed that in my PPRO doc scaled down to, most of 640px x 640px dimension (this is an Instagram video so I was told to do 640px sq)
    • In the PPRO file, I also have footage recorded on a DSLR brought in, and scaled to fit the height proportionally (the edges are cropped which is fine)
    • Also have a couple vector graphics
    • The full video is only about 1min long.
  • If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
    • no messages, it just quits and I get the usual message from apple asking if I want to submit a report.
  • What were you doing when the problem occurred?
    • Making coffee. Nothing else but PPro is running.
  • Has this ever worked before?
    • No
  • What other software are you running?
    • Nothing
  • Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
    • I probably have effects for FX Factory and one other but it has always worked in the past. Seems like since the last PPRO CC update this started happening
  • Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about your CPU, RAM, GPU (make, model, driver version), any third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Blackmagic) and the type of media drives you are using.
    • Standard iMac 28" fully loaded. I have the video files located on an external hard drive.
  • Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?
    • I don't know.
  • Do you still have the issue when choosing Project Settings > General > Renderer > Mercury Playback Engine (Software Only)?
    • Changing to Software Only did nothing. It renders in two steps; 50% through step 1 it crashes.
  • Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both?
    • Hmmm, I never had a problem rendering previews. It always worked, it was just the final render that was the problem but now it appears to be crashing while making previews as well. Crashed making previews and render.

Still no bueno. I also tried to open Adobe Media Encoder and render through that but it had a "critical error" and quit. I also tried a Taddy Porter but that didn't work as well. Should I reinstall PPRO?

MarkGilvey,

Did you ever figure this out? What did you end up doing?

Thanks,
Kevin

I don't have an answer. Other things took priority for quite some time, when i went back into PPRO to update a video, it rendered using Media Encoder. I'm pretty sure there was an update to PPRO before this.

It seems the common theme I am seeing in this error is we all have used the Speed/duration effect on clips.

I'm also facing this problem, it crashes as I try to render 1:1, aspect ratio

Althought I'm able to render on more normal 16:9 screen.
