I have a project in PPro with quite a few AE projects embedded via dynamic link - maybe 20 of them.
It's an 8 minute video, rendering would usually take about an hour, this one is currently taking 24 hours.
Is this workflow -- using PPro to edit, with AE projects embedded -- not the most efficient way to work? Would it be better to render out from PPro, then do my effects in AE afterwords and render again?
24 hours seems like a long time to render. I'm not even sure it's going to make it, it moves so slow.
I'm working on a brand new quad-core i5 iMac with versions 5.5 of both programs.

Shut down your AE, then Premiere renders like a charm. At least that works for me.

I just wanted to jump in and say dasura's suggestion worked perfectly for me. An AE comp that took 5-10 seconds to render an intermediate of in AE, was taking 8+ minutes asa Dynamic Link in PPro. Once I shut down AE, rendered just that selection in PPro, it took 5-10 seconds. Maybe AE is reserving RAM, maybe it's constantly checking back for changes, who knows, but that certainly did it (on my Mac.)

What is the proper way to import the AEP into Premiere? I have been doing it via Media Browser, but the Dynamic link is very slow. I am on a old late 2011 MBP w/ 8gb of RAM. Is there a way around this? When i close AE, it seems that the AE file/comp is unlinked...
Do i need to do a RAM Preview or export a lossless render and import that?

Hi all. I've been working with this problem of overly long render times on PP CC with my dynamic links to after effects. Perhaps my workflow is wrong and I'd love for your input.
The project is a somewhat animation info graphics of sorts with no live video, but with audio and subtitles. Perhaps I could've done the whole project on AE but I prefer the sound placements and editing ability in PP, thus, the Dynamic links.
The whole video consist of numerous compositions of AE and rendering time has been a bitch to me. With what I've read, most of you recommend rendering the sequences in ae and replace the dynamic linked layers. Is this really the fastest and most efficient way of doing things? Still getting the hang of Adobe Dynamic links

Whichever method works better will depend on your hardware, the complexity of your compositions and other factors that only you can see, so really it's up to you to make this call.

Hi Sofrie,
See Todd Kopriva's post (#17) for what I think is the best workflow.
Thanks,
Kevin

Sofrie,
Whenever I need to render or export a premiere project with dynamic links, I first make sure that the AE project is open. Then I start the render/export in premiere. Then I bring AE back to the front and the render happens very quickly. It seems like when AE is the front task my computer is able to figure out what it's supposed to do with the files more quickly. As you can tell, I'm clueless as to the technical reasons behind this.
The switching back to AE trick also works if premiere is slow to load a dynamically linked comp while you're editing. Just flip over to AE for a moment and (most of the time) premiere loads the clip immediately.
Hope this helps
Matt

I was looking for tips on how to increase the playback refresh when I'm scrubbing in premiere over DL comps. I have noticed that when I start to render a premiere sequence with AE DL comps, it helps a lot to simply close AE, but I will try Matthewrichie88's suggestion of switching AE to the front.
My playback resolution on premiere is set to 1/4, and 1/3 on AE, but when the playhead reaches a DL AE comp, it lags terribly. Anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

Seems like AE holds up the render in Premiere if you have them both open while rendering. I just closed AE while rendering a 30 sec clip in PR that said it would take 2+ hours after waiting for it as it crawled along and now it finished while I typed this..
