PR 25 + Frame.io v4: Export timeline markers as comments

Community Beginner ,

I recently upgraded Frame.io from version 3 to version 4 and am now looking for the function that allows me to export timeline markers to Frame.io. When exporting the timeline, I no longer see an option to publish the markers as comments. In general, version 4 seems to be much more limited in Premiere than version 3. Am I missing something?

Frame.io V4 Marker Export Changes

The option you are missing—the explicit "Export markers as comments" checkbox in the standard export dialogue—was intentionally removed in Frame.io V4.

The V4 workflow shifts from a one-time export embed (V3) to a live, automatic synchronization between your Premiere Pro timeline and the Frame.io web app.

The New V4 Workflow

  1. Preparation is Key: Ensure all your marker notes are entered into the "Comment" field (not just the "Name" field) of the Marker dialogue in Premiere Pro.
  2. Use the Panel to Export: You must use the "Export & Share" button located directly within the Frame.io V4 Comments panel (Window > Frame.io > Frame.io V4 Comments).
  3. Automatic Sync: When you use the panel to upload the latest version, the system automatically syncs your timeline markers and converts them into comments on the Frame.io asset because the sequence is linked.

Limitations and Workarounds

You are correct that V4 is less intuitive. Many users report that this automatic synchronization can be buggy in Premiere Pro 2024 (PR 25.x).

  • Missing Markers: If your markers do not appear, the most common reason is a bug or incorrect marker formatting (e.g., using the Name field instead of the Comment field).
  • Missing Manual Control: Unlike V3, V4 does not offer a manual option to force the marker sync, relying entirely on the panel's automatic linking.

Thank you for your prompt reply. Am I correct in understanding that it is still possible to send markers as comments to Frame.io? Unfortunately, I cannot see them in Frame.io. It is clear that the marker name must remain free. As you can see in the screenshot, I should now receive a comment with the content “BB.” Are the markers only synchronized during export, or is there constant synchronization? Even after exporting several times via the panel, the marker does not appear.Screenshot 2025-10-09 154709.png
