Premiere 22.5 Creating a new project is a nightmare

Contributor ,
Jun 29, 2022 Jun 29, 2022

Is there a way to get rid of this new project file template thing.
It's obnoxiously slow, has none of the file management shortcuts, the create button is greyed out, even though it's what you have to click and the templates are stupid. Can I just go back to regular legacy file management, why did they make this terrible UI thing, there’s plenty of things like sticky sliders and legacy issues they could have worked on.

I find it much easier and faster to open a blank project and save it as a new one then to go through this new project loader

No, she's very aware of the situation.

The only thing that might be said to be left out is to first make sure nothing is selected in this 'page'.

Then simply ... as she says and shows ... do what you've always done.

Type a Project Name, set a Location, click Create.

And build your project as you always have done. Via Project panel and/or MediaBrowser panel.

make sure nothing is selected... OK

Still doesn't change the fact that this is a UX/UI disaster moving the program backwards

Sorry, but to me it's quite obvious not to select media if the screenshot says Ignore Select Media to Create New Project.

Also to add to this, if you're in a project and accidently hit new project, there's no cancel and if you go back to the home tap and open the project you were in it glitchs out and stays in a program window and you have to close the program:

Id like to just add that if there's a little folder icon in the lower left of the 'new project' screen, rt click (Windows) and choose "clear all"  That did the trick for me after I de-selected all the files that came up as default in the main screen. And yeah, I agree this part of the interface is NOT intuitave, but granted I'm new to Adobe Premiere.

So... Your answer just makes me furious.
Because as I name the new project and guide it to the folder where the folder i want to create for it will be I CAN NOT MAKE A FOLDER! What is wrong with these millenial crackpots programming Premiere now? This "new" import is a stain on the face of  humanity. Shame.
And lets not even get into the EXPORT! JEEBUS what a nightmare, I have to press 10 times more buttons than i used to. WHO ever wants to render the full timeline? Why is from in to out not default??? Why do I have to set the bitrate to the one i want every time? How can it be so crappy?

It didn't put the project in the folder i directed it to. Itput it in an autosave folder somewhere else.

I say its absolute rancid crap. But what do I know. I teached classes in Premiere in the early 2000s.

Just revert it!

COULD NOT AGREE MORE! Are there any "Editors" left in Adobe Programming or is it now only washed up influencers?

For a direct answer ... there are several million daily users of Premiere, widely dispersed between TV/episodic through advertising through streaming through corporate vids through ... everything including the YouTubers.

The app in general has been increasing users at a prodigious pace.

And your assumption that this new start process was designed for YouTubers is off base. It was the network users that were the intended beneficiaries of the change.

(Remember, Adobe is a huge corporation, right? They seem to most naturally respond to requests from other corporations ... sigh.)

That said, most users are 1) NOT using the simple start options of that page yet 2) not having troubles with the start of a project. Name, Location, Create, and load assets the way we always have.

The new project dialog is different and at first annoying unless of course you're one of the several thousand daily users that found it a thankful addition.

For the rest of us, it is a simple swap out of controls we never used for some that a few thousand or so users a day find incredibly helpful.  I don't use it, but I do not resent it being there for those for whom it is a wondrous timesaver.

It doesn't slow one down at all after you realize how to use it.

I have continually faulted the devs for not making it crystal clear there are multiple ways to use the startup process. We have agreed to ... disagree, shall we say.

It's like no product testing for this:
No cancel button and if you home tab and open the project you are in, this get stuck in a window.

I've followed this thread and still can't figure out how to create a project, create button is greyed out and every action takes forever to load.

laughable man... if it wasn't wasting so much of my time

Type a project name.

Select a project location on disc.

Make sure nothing is selected in the middle file import area (no stars on any files or folders). And nothing blue in the options upper right.

Now the Create button should be blue, click it and build your project as always.

I'm looking back through your posts, and trying to sort this out.

This image you showed ...

RNeilHaugen_0-1670005791618.png

is from the project, after you've created and opened the project, and you're using the Import page to add media into that project.

And after you've created the project, you can't at this point change the project location from this screen. Only add media to the project.

This is the screen I get when I "choose location" for a new project:

RNeilHaugen_3-1670006791006.png

It's an Explorer window, and note, "New Folder" is one of the options there. Select a folder, or select one and create a subfolder. Then click "create",  and your project should appear in that folder on disc. It should also be created in your Auto-Save location.

After you've created the project, you can't change the project file location from this window.

And anytime after a project is created, the Import page only allows you to add media to your project. I'll try to explain what you showed above

The below image shows that navigation bar to the left ...

RNeilHaugen_1-1670006008879.png

Note the starred or 'favorite' Footage on the left, is the folder on the line above, in the location you show in your very small image.

You can use that area on the left to navigate to and select folders ... and do things like make or un-make favorites ... which most people using this page should do of course. Here, I've gone to another folder on my laptop.

RNeilHaugen_2-1670006343397.png

I selected the C: drive on the left side, and the contents of the C: drive appeared in that center area. Then as you can see in the listed folder tree, I clicked on the Editing folder, and this is showing the contents of the Editing folder. I should 'favorite' that Editing folder to save time in the future.

I just created a new project with that window, on the 'root' of my L drive ... which is a LucidLink virtual drive. It won't let my create a drive on the root of the system drive of this laptop naturally. As on this laptop, that is 'protected' territory.

It also creates the project folder in the Auto-Save location set in the app.

This NewProject/Import page is not the place that most editors should be using to add media to a project, however. It works perfectly for the several thousand people that needed this. For the rest of us, there is a better way as noted so often.

Name, Select Location, Create. Then import media from the Project or MediaBrowser panels.

Puzzling, that.

When I launch Premiere, this is the screen I see ...

RNeilHaugen_0-1670009482712.png

When I click on a previously created project, this is what I see ...

RNeilHaugen_1-1670009640335.png

If I click the Import Page option from an open project, this is what I see ...

RNeilHaugen_2-1670009733322.png

So I'm wondering what your startup Preference is set to here ... Home, which shows the list of recent projects as I show above, or Last Project?

Then simply don't use it. Do what you've always done. Did you like looking at the old new project dialog?

The function's the same for starting projects, it just looks different.

Type a name, set a location, Create. Get on with your work.
