Thank you. There is an issue with Metal Renderer with Overlays functionality (Safe Margins, etc.) that is currently under investigation. A possible workaround is to set Renderer to OpenCL. File menu > Project Settings > General > Video Rendering and Playback > Renderer set to Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration (OpenCL).

Hope this helps.

Trent when will this be resolved so that METAL Renderer is usable with overlays again?

Sorry, I cannot give an ETA. I can only say that it is being investigated and we hope to have it fixed as soon as possible.

How can such a mistake go through the testing and acceptance and be published for paying subscribers ???

R. Stephan,

How can such a mistake go through the testing and acceptance and be published for paying subscribers ???

Sorry about that. There are many different combinations of systems, media, workflows, etc. and we do our best to find any mistakes before releasing the software. We also have a team of editors that volunteer as beta testers. That said, we are humans and are susceptible to making errors, etc. from time to time. Unfortunately, issues do slip by us and we do our best to fix them as soon as possible. My apologies for your frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

Software testing is mostly done by end users with released products, due to huge variety of systems it is used on.

Rules of thumb: Never update the minute the software is released. Test the updates on non production machines. Stick to full versions that are about a year old (ie 2019 is nearly mature enough to replace 2018). Whichever version you are on will have bugs, some will be fixed in the next version but new ones will be introduced.

This seems like a pretty minor problem, with a workaround. Imagine it was a repeat of the bug where source media was deleted... (2017.0.1 I think)

In my opinion, Adobe should pay more attention to the stability and accuracy of the software, as always new features that nobody needs, and make the product unnecessarily extensive!

LATEST

Which new features of the latest drop were unwanted? ProRes encoding on PCs? That was about it, besides bug fixes.

Over the last cycle  ... Comparison View, shotmatching, and multiple instances of Lumetri controls, or the 5 new curves in Lumetri to name some of the rather few new features that have been added in 2019 ... ?

They didn't add a lot of new features in 2019 release but had a long bug-fixed list. Which I was glad to see. They need to sort more of them for sure, as always.
