funny how after all this time adobe didn't care much about this huge issu...  I tried everything. realy everything.

The only think that work is re-installing windows.  realy sad that i have to re-install all my other app and every plugin etc. because one app doesn't work properly..

I hope it will help other people. I'll mark it as solve. even if the reason of the lag are still unknow...

The OP has solved their issue in October, 2018. It appears that others having the same issue are adding onto this post and are not receiving help. Therefore, if you are experiencing playback and/or performance issues, kindly create a new post.

Im literally having this issue now over a year past the date of this post.

Has anyone else had this issue or found a fix to the problem? I was just editing one day and all of the sudden I noticed my footage started to slowly start lagging more and more. Before that I was able to render 4k footage with absolutely NO problem. So I put my project into 1080p since I normally export down anyways, and I am STILL getting just as much lag and stuttering.

My computer specs are a 2019 Acer Helios Predator 300
CPU: Intel i7-9750H
GPU: GTX 1660 TI 6Gb
Ram: 16Gb DDR4
Running Project off of a Samsung SSD with 250Gb remaining space.

This is super frustrating as I am editing for work. Even more frustrating is that it looks like Adobe hasn't responded to anyone.
Am I wrong? And if so can someone point me to the right answer?

Please and a definite thank you to anyone who can help.

I'm having the same issue. I didn't want to update because I saw all this negative stuff about it slowing down but had to for work. Now just playing back my video and trying to make basic edits is incredibly laggy and infuriating. Does anyone know if an update is coming soon?

Thanks

I gave up and installed Davinci Resolve 16, it is 1000x faster for the same timeline....editting the same timeline is fluid and realtime with no lag so it is not my system/drivers/settings.

I have similar problem, when I go to a new clip in timeline it takes 10 seocnds for the preview to update, very laggy

can't belive this kind of performance. what is the debug check list?

I just got off the phone with Adobe, after a bit of brainstorming we had a breakthrough. I have an internal SSD, which is where my Media Cache is located, and an traditional drive where my project and media is located. The breakthrough was copying the project file onto the SSD, and opening it from there. It's still accessing the footage on the HDD - but now it's moving like a dream. I couldn't scrub video or even navigate to a menu with lag. Now, it's running as I expect.

So, in summary:

Project and Media Cache on SDD

Media Files on HDD

Nevermind!  getting the latest driver did not fix the problem.  I can play a bit more before it freezes in the source montor, but it still freezes up and not able to create proxies in Media encoder.  It will start encoding but then stalls about 6 secinds in.

Make sure that your video card update is using the manufacturing company drop down selection for your specific card to get the most recent updates. I first did a right click on my video card under display adapters in device manager and Window 10 said the driver was up to date. Then I did a google search for my card drivers and it took me to a page on the Nvidia site and I found a more recent update. Turns out, it was not the most recent driver and did not help my issue. I could easily scrub 1080 but any clips larger than that would freeze up Premiere 2019. After finding and installing the most recent studio version of the driver (9-4-2019) for my GTX1080 it fixed the problem. Finally I can get back to work. Hope this helps someone!

I'm starting to suspect this is a little more common for Windows 10 users. I have the best hardware (on a PC) at my job yet all my coworkers on macs are running their premire software just fine. I'm like a snail in the indie 500, so slow. My project are small and just getting crazy lag. It's really a pain. 13.1.5 hasn't done much, Adobe really needs to get this together. Not sure what else to say, everyone is having the same issues.

I was having the same problem on a newly purchased iMac Pro. For me it turned out to be the scopelinktransmitter plugin. I first moved out all 3rd party plugins. Everything worked instantly. Then replaced one at a time until scopelink created the lag again.
