Premiere Pro 2022 - Dynamic Link Not working with After Effects

Explorer ,
Oct 27, 2021 Oct 27, 2021

After updating to PP 22, dynamic link with AE is not working. I've tried going to documents and putting OLD after dynamic link folder, but this did nothing.

This is so disappointing and am actually installing beta versions to finish a project.

This morning, there was an update to AfterEffects (22.0.1). Since, at this point, we had nothing to lose, we decided to install it and see if anything improved.

Thankfully, it did! Older projects with Dynamic Linked .aep files (which is kind of our bread and butter around here) all worked and rendered out just fine. Some of them took a little longer than others to "find", but they all showed up eventually.

I will grant you we only checked a small snumber of projects - just our latest projects -

I'm in totally the same boat at the moment, working on a huge project at the moment with more links to AE than I can count.

Ever since everything went over to 2022 it's just crashing and can't cope with the linking.

I resaved the AE project in 2022 so it can least see it as the new version, but made no difference.

It's trashing edits, there is only so much going into AE and exporting individual sequences I can cope with. Taking far too much time. Is this going to be fixed soon??

revert to 2021 until a fix arrives...  search here for instructions on how to revert the project...

Has anyone without an enterprise plan managed to get hold of the 15.4.2 version so that we can downgrade to a secure version while waiting for this issue to be resolved? 15.4.1 has several critical vulnerabilities.

Having the same kind of problem. On Mac OS Monterey and all programs are English and v22. AE files play fine in AE, but dynamic link in premiere just freezes the whole program even for psds. I literally cannot edit at all. Tried adding OLD to the dynamic link server folder but problem persists. If I revert to last version will I be able to continue working cuz I am losing money on this. Extremely angered at this situation. Thank you.

Same thing. Dynamic link not working, exports from Premiere Pro glitch in the sections where DL is used. Tried contacting support, gave me the run around, wasted an hour on trying to extort simple yes/no answers.

The update happened automatically, even though my settings are to only update manually. This is unacceptable. Deadlines getting missed because of this.

Just disable the multiframe rendering in AE and you would be fine.

In AE hit

edit

preferences

memory & performance

uncheck the multiframe rendering.

That worked for me

Dude. I don't recall even enabling it... It was enabled and disabling it worked. Thanks a lot, man.

Probably a good idea to always check your preferences after an update..

Hm, mine actually managed to finish a comp that it preciously froze on, but now I'm noticigin it still missed it's out point somewhat. Guess this doesn't solve the issue completely, but I'll take any progress at this point.

First of all, the update happened without my choice. Secondly, are you really saying that I should have somehow known to look for this particular preference, out of all possible preferences, and then presume that it's the one causing the problem? How about, the service providers should have tested this out before launching it and forcing the update upon users? Loving the people who are here just to be irritating.

You can turn off automatic updates in the CC App.

They were turned off, that's what the problem is. The update was automatic even though I disallowed it. And then the new version is hella buggy. Support simply doesn't have anything to say. Unacceptable.

Yeah, upon further tries, it seems to have not actually solved the issue, it was just a lucky export that seemed to be fine, when it wasn't. The glitches persist even with multiframe rendering off.

Turning off multiframe rendering is not a fix.  Thats the flagship feature of the new version.  The kind of advancement our subscription costs pay for.  We should be able to use it.

It's hard to see where things have gone in this thread. I just tried something that seems to have worked so hopefully it helps people here.
I opened an old AE project and resaved with from CC2022 with a new file name.
Then, in the corresponding Premiere Pro project, I right clicked all of the linked comps that show as offline media, hit the "link media" menu item and linked each comp individually to the newly-saved AE project. suddenly everything seems to be working fine, but just with this one project so far. My only other workaround has been to export comps as jpeg sequences to get something into premiere pro but that is super cumbersome and I don't enjoy tracking those rendered folders.

And I just tried it with a 2nd project - same success.
I think that you have to rename your AE projects to something new for this to work. opening one with the CC22 version and just saving isn't going to do the trick. Perhaps there's something in the autosave or metadata that's tricking dynamic link into thinking the AE project is an older version?
anyway I resaved 2 projects now with unique file names, relinked all the comps in premeire and it seems to be working as good as it ever has. hope this helps someone out.

I noticed that as long as AE had the linked file open, Premiere Pro will successfully connect to it.  However, if AE does not have the dynamic link file open, then Premiere Pro can no longer connect and if you try, PP would stop responding.

Renaming didn't do anything to solve the issue for me - only having the dynamic link open in AE.  Bad thing is, AE can only have one dynamic link open at a time.  If you have more than one dynamic link and you try to connect, PP will still lock up if you try to connect.

I've also been struggling with this over the last few days and I tried resaving with new file names for both the AE and Premiere files, still to no avail 😞 Really hope this gets fixed soon, I'd hate to have to re-edit in 2021. Auto updates are being turned off NOW!

Did you try opening the linked file in AE then re-open your PP project?

Yep. After saving as a new name, I closed all files. Open AE 2022, open the file I was linking to, then opened the PP project and tried linking missing media. Still not working 😕

I had better success without re-naming the linked file - just opened the original linked file in AE, first.

Thanks for that tip, all my dynamic link comps are still showing "media pending" ...seems to stay this way until it times out. Should there be any pending if I'm doing it correctly based on your results?

Perfect, this just worked for me! Thank you. Bit of a pain having to re link everything but it's waaaay better than having to rerender everything, so I thank you.
