Premiere Pro 2024 export slower than 2023

Hello,

I noticed that Premiere 2024 export generally slower than 2023.

Of course with same files (a 13min sequence with caption), same export settings (h264 1920x1080, 35Mb) and same computer (Apple M2, 8Gb, Sonoma 14, Premiere 24), it takes about 7min. to export.

As a comparison the exact same export took around 3min30/4min with Premiere 2023.

I tried reset, media cache deleting etc. but still about the same render time.

I guess upgrading RAM would be the best solution.

Thanks!

after my update to premiere pro 24 the default went back and when I changed it back to

Hardware encoding enabled from Media Preferences.

it fixed the problem.

How has adobe not fixed this? It is insane. I spent the whole year not upgrading to 24 and now that I have it has absolutely bricked my rig. A 60 second video takes 10 minutes and a 25 minute video won't even finish rendering in Premiere or AE. This is a f***ing joke.

Yeah, I'm editing a podcast of an hour video. Used to export in 20mins, now it's around 48mins up to 1:40hours long from 24.6.3 to 25.1 version of Pr. WTF

The same here.  I use both PC and Mac, PC is superior in specs, yet export time is probably 50x longer in PC. PC versions generally are unstable, problematic with media offline files, and constant offline media. Adobe doesn't care for Windows.

Hi All,

Sorry for this issue and thanks for highligting it. We haven't seen any such export degradation in internal testing/verifications.
This may be some cache issue while updrading Premiere. Please follow this page to clear cache https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro-discussions/faq-how-to-clear-your-media-cache-in-premiere-pro/m-p/11017257

Moreover, please ensure Hardware encoding is enabled from Media Preferences. If it still doesn't work, please share your project/media files/export settings to help us reproduce this problem at our end https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/share.html . We will investigate and try to understand more on this to take further action if required.

Thanks,

Mayjain

I upgraded for the first time sinse May. It was already taking me a while to coordinate. Now it's running slower making advancing imposible. I deleted all the catch files without any positive results.

Hi, gathering info: are you all exporting to h264? did you experience a slowdown in another format?

You're not alone. I'm running a high-end graphics rig. used to be able to push out a 15 minute video using the Youtube 2160p preset in 15 minutes or less. The same video now takes over 1 hour in PP 2024. However Media encoder still does it in 15 minutes. I double checked Hardware encoding is still enabled and the encode times are just 4 times longer than in the previous version.

Similar here, 2024 slower to export than 2023 on iMac 27 Intel i9. But much better than 2023 was on my iMac 24 M1. So, seems to have made a better difference to M1 iMacs.

BUT, on my Windows 11 PC, with a later i9, higher Clock speed, more cores and more RAM than the i9 iMac, it's terrible. The same 2h 15m film Exporting to H264 with basic cut edits takes 1hr 10mins to export, whereas, what is the older slower i9 iMac takes only 28 mins. for the same file. Also, Media Encoder takes over twice the time to Export on PC as it does iMac.

Time to ditch the Windows PC, I think.

Same here. Same timeline. Exports takes double or more time to render with the same output codec.
