Premiere Pro 2024 is Glitchy!

I'm finding it hard to work smoothly in this version. Already started a project, so can't go back to previous version! Can't drag and drop assests on to timeline easily (takes several tries), can't drop transitions onto timeline (takes several tries), music is glitchy (I deleted and reinstalled only to realize this is how it's working in this version so far). The glitchiness goes away in an exported file.

I AGREE FULLY! So frustrating that this happens every damn time! I have been in the middle of two commercials and had to up version when moving studios and suddenly I can NOT even lasso grab my keyframes anymore! I do a lot of offline comps in my jobs and it is ESSENTIAL for me to be able to do this. Now I have to manually click every darn keyframe and it jumps out of place when selected. Not to mention the render issues on a simple blur and swipe transitions. The fact that when I have to do socials and make a nest, it crops the edges of an image and then have to jump back to a 16x9 timeline do the nest then copy it back into a 9x16 timeline in order to pan and scan properly, is dumb.  Literally nothing improved of any kind in the new version. Also when exporting, making a new folder for new versions it constantly jumps to the previous folder and always have to manually select back to the new folder, and then on the next round it suddenly remembers where I had exported to but by then its too late. Literally also have not seen automatic tracking added which even the old stone age Avid has had for a decade! We still have to track manually??? And no! I dont want to jump to After effects. Its a stupid basic tool. I wish they could stop focussing on AI editing, which sucks any way and focus on developing AI that can actually help the back end of the editors, such as arranging bins and timelines, managing selects, and exports... But we see none of those improvements, just focussed on trying to make an editor, which is pushing it's main user out of the workspace. Long rant, but my gods! You can't go backwards like this on a new version. What is the point of the new version anyway? Havent seen any new features which warranted this level of frustration??

Some things are a pain.

But ... I've been using the track forward/back on a lot of the effects in Premiere for over a decade now. No clue why you think that one isn't available.

And the edit by text is pretty much a HUGE part of my working anymore. That's a 'new' feature certainly. As is the ability to finally set a fair number of color management things to user tastes.

Ivan, computer things always migrate forward. It's an incrediblly annoying fact of Life. I don't know how many computers we've used in our business since 1987, but it's been a lot. We have now only two "main' computers, one for the wife's pro stills, a beast for my pro video work.

I replaced my previous beast at four years old a year and a half ago. It's now my backup to my main rig, and has clear back to the original CC versions on it. The missus is now due for an update to her rig, for Photoshop and sales/bookkeeping apps use. That's ... what we all go through.

Each version of any major software wll leave some older hardware and code behind. I've SO many floppies of apps that aren't even an app any more. Want an early copy of dBase? Cost me something like $600 back in the early 90's. Dead now, long dead. I've got many other then-"pro" apps in a box for funsies.

For Hugo ... you think Resolve works good on outdated hardware? Really? I work for/with/teach pro colorists, mostly based in Resolve, and they consider anything under 64GB of RAM and with less than 12GB of vRAM to be essentially useless.

Premiere and Resolve both run well on my desktop, and I use both daily. I'm on the BM forums and LGG also, of course.

But on my once-hot 4 year old Acer laptop, Premiere 24 runs great. Resolve 18 is such a dog on that rig i uninstalled it.

There is no solution. It's a problem with the way the software handles video editing, bloat and the underlying code. I recommend trying Davinci Resolve Studio.

I am having similar problems. 2021 worked fine, but 23 and 24 have these issues: extremely sluggish timeline playback (even with proxies), keyframes not working (example: set 1st keyframe to 0 and 2nd to 100. Result is a value of 100 all the way, like keyframe 1 doesn't exist). Deleting cache doesn't help. I am on a HP Z840 workstation, 2x Xeon 2.6, Nvidia Quadro M4000, SSD disks...

I think that's at least partly because that is truly a respected elder generation computer. For example, the Maxwell generation M4000 GPU is from 2016 ... the era of the 700 series GT cards.

I would expect issues with lag and playback with that gear.

The HP Z840 is from 2013, right?  I'd expect exceptional 1080p performance and solid 2160p performance with CC2014 through 2019 with mezzanine CODECs, maybe as far up as 2023.

I'm not sure I'd expect great performance from 2024.

Mine literally alwayt freezes when trying to access the file menu. It's a miracle the program works at all - it never crashes but it will hang 19 times in a row when trying to click file save and always recover. i never had this issue before 2024 not even once, and I've done the troubleshooting, that's not the issue.

Mine still crashes ALL THE TIME! After Effects too but a little less! Projects literally take so much extra time because of constant rebooting.  I bought a beefy gamer laptop with loaded memory, disk space and graphics card in hopes of preventing this type of problem. I now don't believe my issues were related to my computer.

Gaming computers often have things setup for gaming, like sound cards and settings, that cause havoc with video editing apps. That's tge first thing to check.

Second, gaming computers frequently don't have the parts specifically needed by an NLE.

And third, to get able to help you at all we'd need to know your specific hardware, OS/CPU/RAM/GPU and GPU driver. Note: Nvidia gaming drivers are *not* recommended for editing apps.

Plus the media you're using and effects.

Whoever decided to remove the drag and drop to timeline feature, kudos to you as you made me switch to da vinci resolve. Genius move! as if Premier Pro wasnt glitchy enough.

That has not changed.

You may want yo start a new thread to get help with this issue.

I use premiere pro all the time and it's a great editing program but it's very frustrating when I finish editing my video and try to post it directly to YouTube but I can't upload a thumbnail that I made through your app and I have to do it through YouTube. EVERYTIME I choose the upload a thumbnail tab and click on my file it keeps lagging and buffering and won't ever open the program. It has made my computer close app and delete two projects I had to remake and that pissed me off! I have a new MacBook Air so it isn't my computer I have restarted my application 3 times restarted my computer 5 times and force quit my entire computer and it still bugs out. I don't want to delete my subscription but I will and use something else if this continues I love adobe I use all of the applications but this is slowing down my process when I can do the same thing with another subscription based program!

I'm having issues with putting In and Out points in the source monitor.  I'm not able to place them with keyboard short cuts or the buttons under the monitor.

The system requirements were updated for Premiere Pro 24.  If you choose Help > System Compatability Report, so you see any alerts?

Delete the Media Cache and Media Cache files:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-clear-your-media-cache-in-30-seconds-in-premiere-pro-2020/m-p/11017257/thread-id/260446?page=1

If that doesn't work, try resetting the preferences:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/premiere-pro/faq-how-to-reset-trash-preferences-in-premiere-pro/td-p/8236158?page=1

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.
from here:
https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/workspaces.html

If that doesn't work, try Preferences > Audio Hardware and set Input to None.

If that doesn’t work, try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site. If NVIDIA, do a clean installation of the latest Studio Driver (NOT the Game Driver).

If that doesn't work, try creating a new project and import the old one into it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried all of them, to the best of my ability. The only way I could empty the cache is by selecting the “delete” button from preferences>media cache. I cannot find an appdata>roaming>adobe>common>cache folder. Attached is a screen shot of my file manager.

Got to Edit > Preferences > Media Cache to find where the Media Cache is located.

You can change the location if you can click Browse.
