i have identical projects on 24 and 25
is it the inclusion of colour management that has borked the performance in PP 25?
In 24 I was able to work with 8k h.265 files with 2 lots of lumetri effects and 3 adjustment layers in the timeline and it would play back. There is no chance with 25. Ditto 5K dji h.265s.
Its so bad that grading is almost impossible - I will change a value in a lumetri effect and it will not update in the preview window, I'll have to move the playhead to see the effect.

PPro 25.2.1 (25.3 had a showstopping render bug I had to roll back).

didn't bother because its the same hardware with 24 and 25 and I'm happy with the performance in 24 - I'm curious if this is acknowledged issue - and the colour management looked liked the most obvious thing that would slow things down. But anyway:
windows 11 24h2
Intel 13700K 64gb ddr5
gigabyte z690 aero D
rtx 4080 16GB driver 561.09
OS on NVME ssd
Media on raid 5
not the most recent graphics driver because people were having issues with the most recent at the time, not sure where that is up to

Each new major version ... for instance, going from 24.x to 25.x ... had higher needs for hardware to get the same performance. Always been the case.
Which is why JonesVid asked the questions ... but realistically, trouble shooting always requires complete data, and it wastes your time and our time as volunteer peers trying to help if you don't give us enough data to even start from.
OS/CPU/RAM/GPU, GPU driver version, media used in detail and what created it, and other effects used, plus number & type of drives and how much free space they have is also useful.

The new color management shouldn't cause any problems for playback. Haven't even heard of anything.
And your rig is quite solid ... so it's a puzzlement as to what's going on there. Sadly. Would be as annoying as all get out.
