Premiere Pro CC 2018 Won't Load

New Here ,
Dec 14, 2017 Dec 14, 2017

The recent update of Premiere Pro CC 2018 will not load on my iMac, no matter what I try (i.e. reboot, reinstall, etc.)  It works fine on my MacBook Pro.  On the desktop, I have installed the previous version (2017), and it works fine.

Upon attempting to launch, I get the splash screen for a few seconds, then the dock icon continues to bounce for several more seconds, finally, I am left only with a 'force quit'.

Late model 27" iMac running 10.11.6 with 32gb memory.

Hi john,

Please try these steps on your desktop:

Close all of the Adobe applications in Activity Monitor.

  • Double click on blank desktop screen first.

  • Now on top left corner of the screen (near Apple Icon), click on Go > Go to Folder.

Location 1: In the box type ~/Library/Application Support.

Location 2: In the box type ~/Library/Preferences.

Location 3: Documents folder

In all the locations, rename the 'Adobe' folders to 'OldAdobe'

Launch Premiere Pro, accept the License Agreement and see if it works.

Note: You will lose your customized workspaces and keyboard shortcuts.

Thanks,

Kulpreet Singh

Kulpreet,

Thanks for the quick response.  This seems to have worked.  Premiere Pro CC 2018 will now launch normally.

However, a couple of things of note.

1.  I was unable to close some of the Adobe items in the Activity Monitor, such as CEF Helper, and another.  Perhaps you were only referring to applications?

2.  Of the three folders that I changed to 'OldAdobe', two of them disappeared upon launching Premiere.  The folder in documents remains.

3.  While I am only a beginner with Premiere and have no customization losses to worry about, I am concerned about other applications such as Lightroom.  Will it be affected?

Thanks for trying those steps and I am glad that you are able to use the application.

1.  I was unable to close some of the Adobe items in the Activity Monitor, such as CEF Helper, and another.  Perhaps you were only referring to applications?

Yes, I was referring to the Adobe applications. There are some Creative Cloud services that will run in the background.

2.  Of the three folders that I changed to 'OldAdobe', two of them disappeared upon launching Premiere.  The folder in documents remains.

Launching Premiere pro will automatically create new 'Adobe' folders in all of the locations. If you have any data or any existing project, you can copy it manually from the OldAdobe (in Documents).

3.  While I am only a beginner with Premiere and have no customization losses to worry about, I am concerned about other applications such as Lightroom.  Will it be affected?

None of your applications/data/media files will be affected. Let me know if you have any other question.

-Kulpreet Singh

I am stuck in exactly the same boat! Updated, didn't want to open, rolled back to previous version and kept crashing midway through edits, then upgraded again and still the same - no starting up.

I was having the same issue, and the "correct" answer to did not help my situation either.  I went to my Creative Cloud app and installed Version 12.0.1 and it booted up. I don't know if this is helpful to anyone else - like so many problems one answer doesn't seem to fit all.

For anyone not sure how to install an older version, just go to your Creative Cloud App in the menu bar, and to the right of Premiere Pro click on the drop-down menu (tiny v) just to the right of the OPEN button and select other versions. DO KNOW that his will delete the current version you are running - but you can always update again.

Edit to add system:

iMac 27 inch, late 2013

High sierra Version 10.12.4

As an addendum to my post above about reverting back to Premiere 12.0.1, I used it all day with no problems, but when I tried to use Media Encoder CC (ME) to render my project, it  flashed me a startup screen for a few seconds then died. So I reverted back to version 12.0.1 of ME and it works fine now as well. Again, I hope this temporary solution works for others as well. You better believe I'll be holding off on pressing that update button for awhile for the other applications I'm using.

Yes I’ve also been having trouble with ME too come to think of it, can’t send AE Comps to the queue, they error, I have to use the render queue in AE instead.

Thanks to all. Reloaded older versions of Premiere, Media Encoder and After Effects. Seems to be working now. But the newer versions corrupted files in the project folder. Re-building a whole project! ADOBE please stop sending out unstable software!

Hi to All,

we have the same problem,

after the last update from ADOBE Premiere CC2018 Build

Premiere don't run!

Before the update we have no problems!

We only date up, for opening a new Premiere Projekt!

We call the Support Chat from ADOBE.

They don't know some think!

Than we find the ADOBE Problem.

We make a test with a new USER, and Premiere run.

But for our SAN-System we don't like a new USER, so we test more.

Than we find the Prblem, we delete all Local User Fonts, and Premiere run.

The Support Guy from ADOBE say, after the USER Story,

your rights are defekt!

No the right are ok.

We ask the Guy, whant you no the key for the Problem?

No! We have no Problems!

You are the first person, and you have problems with your rights!

I end the Chat

Greetings

Go to ...Library/Caches/Adobe/Premiere Pro/12.0

Delete the "Typesupport" folder

Hi Vinay,

It's nice that there's an ADOBE employee,
who is interested in solutions.
The support staff member in the chat was not!

The support member had no interest in our solution!

The support member meant it is up to USER right!

But It was not USER right!

But maybe you misunderstood me,
we have found a solution.
By deleting the local USER fonts,  Lybary/Fonts
the problem was solved.

( In your Finder, go up to the Go menu

Click "Go To Folder"

Type "~/Library" and click Go.

Go to ...Library/Fonts

delete all fonts )

Cache files are with us only on an external cache drive

Best regards

Glad to know that Adobe is aware of the issues.

Your suggestion of

Install 12.1 update

In your Finder, go up to the Go menu

Click "Go To Folder"

Type "~/Library" and click Go.

Go to ...Library/Caches/Adobe/Premiere Pro/12.0

Delete the "Typesupport" folder

Open up Premiere Pro.

And there was another saying delete the fonts.

I spent HOURS trying all kinds of things and before I even attempt this again I'd like a permanent fix/patch/update from Adobe that works for all.

I read a lot about nvidia drivers. I had the same issues with my iMac AMD.

If you could please keep us updated on a SOLID fix or an update to fix the issues that would be great.

I went back to previous version, which works fine. Won't upgrade until next version comes. And probably not until others have tested that one...

I have not tried that. I went back to 12.0.1
