Premiere Pro CC v.22 Playback freezes or lags after pressing play or scrubbing.

Hi there,

I am having the same issues, premier pro 2022 and it not only lags (this is something i can deal with, for now) but the main issue I am facing is everytime i set up premier pro, the playback work fine for like 5 minutes, and then it gets stuck.

It can get stuck at the play or stop button, either way it doesnt work. doesnt work for the timeline preview or the preview on the top left. i have tried out your solution on audiohardware amongst others, but NOTHING seems to work.

I have restarted my computer x10, redownloded the application many times, and nth seems to work.

Appreciate if you could lend a hand.

thanks

Hey George,

Sorry about that. This post is two years old, BTW. So, the advice will not be up to date. I'll break this out into a new post so we can get you help.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi George,

Sorry. Problems with playback can be solved in a few different ways.

If Premiere Pro never played back without issue, you probably need to optimize your media when setting up a project. In order to give you advice, we need to know the media you are working with. Generally, you need to transcode or "copy" the footage to a new format or create what we call "proxies" using the "proxy workflow."

If Premiere Pro used to work OK, you probably need to perform some troubleshooting, like deleting media cache with all projects closed or trashing preferences.

We need more info on your computer system (CPU/GPU/RAM/HDs) and media (like, which camera did it come from? Is it ProRes, XDCAM, or standard H.264? Or was it variable frame rate H.264 footage that came from a gaming stream, mobile phone or drone?).

We need to know these things, as well as any notes from you that would assist us in helping you get back to square one.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thank you Kevin. I went through a few troubleshooting methods but all didnt work. I tried proxies too, but the playback had the same issue.

It used to work, but with lower quality footage. I bought a new camera (GoPRO 10) and the videos from this camera havent worked since day 1 - i.e. laggy playback and aftre a few minutes, playback stops working totally for both preview.

Do you think it would be possible to set up a call with you for more efficiency, rather than chatting on this forum? at this stage, I am not really sure what is the cause right now

Hi George,

Thanks for the info. Still don't know about your computer but if GoPro footage is what you're playing around with, you'd need a powerful one.

Oh, no. Proxies didn't work? Did you try the ProRes ones? They're great, especially the medium quality ones.

Maybe H.264 decoding is not working. Knowing more about your system could reveal the issue. Odd that any troubleshooting also did not work. Sorry. Have you tried deleting media cache files with all your projects closed?

I understand. A call or chat is possible, just not with me. You can get started with a chat specialist here, though. Ask for the video queue to get my team members on the horn.

Thanks,
Kevin

LATEST

thanks Kevin, yes im using a GoPro 10. Media cache all deleted.

Computer wise, I am attaching the full specs for your reference. Its a Lenovo X1 Carbon, bought in 2018. The playback button was okay when i used it for iphone video editing back in mar 2020. Note that were no playback lagging issues nor playback freezing.

Play back freezing happens after 3-5 minutes, and the only way i can make it unfreeze is to quit premierpro altogether (which freezes my compouter for about 10 mintes when exiting), this effectively means i cannot use the application any more.

I clicked on the link you provided and spoke on the chat box - but the officer mentioned that i should post a question on the forum.. its going back and forth and this has been going on for more than a week. I wonder how should i escalate this, or shoulkd i try out another product altogether. Apprecaite your help and replies. thank you Untitled.png
