Premiere Pro CC2015 using too much RAM?

Guest
Jun 19, 2015 Jun 19, 2015

Been using CC2015 for a couple of days now and notice it's using more RAM than it should, according to settings in preferences. After a few minutes of SD material playback it's used up almost all RAM in my system making it virtually unable to operate. Ranging from Blackmagic 480i/p AVIs to Blackmagic 1080p AVIs, XDCAM EX files and AVID DNxHD/Meridien QuickTimes. Does anyone notice anything similar?

Cheers!

Here are my settings:

And my taskmgr:

Specs are as follows:

Win7 Pro 64bit SP1

HP Z800 with dual Xeon X5680 @ 3.33GHz

48GB DDR3 RAM

300GB SAS system Drive

32TB SAS RAID on 16x2 TB Hard Drives

4GB Geforce GTX 970

Premiere Pro CC2015

46.7K

Actually, someone on reddit pointed out that the memory leak seems to be coming from Luminatri Scopes. I can confirm this. Whenever I have the scopes window open, my RAM usuage starts to sky-rocket without stopping. As soon as I close it, the RAM usage goes back to normal.

We are a team of video editors, and because of adobe unsolved problem, it  took to us to edit a wedding about 6 time more than usual. We are 5 editors. The same is happening to every one, crashing, low on memory (32GB its using all.....and crashing.....)
this is happening when we try to working with 50fps clips. lol....nobody from Adobe is not replying any more to this post......whats happening with you guys?

Just an update. I finally got to a place where I finished all my ongoing projects and tried to import a big folder of 4k MP4 files from my GH4 again. A brand new project and brand new footage.  Before the footage had fully imported I got the dreaded "computer low on memory" message, and multiple "image buffer" failure messages.

I rolled back to Premiere Pro 2015.3 and imported the footage. I currently sat watching the memory remain at 20% as it smoothly imports and conforms the footage with no issues.

Adobe, you NEED to sort this out!! I want to be able to update Premiere to new versions, this is why I am paying the subscription to you after all! WHEN will you sort this???

I have the same problems since I updated to 2015.4. Unfortunately I started a new project in this version. I first noticed it while queing to Encoder, but when only with PP it  also happens. Sometimes my PC crashes. Sometimes I get a message about not enough memory and I can click that away and continue as if nothing happened. PP is not unusable, but unstable.

Same problem here. Import some 50fps vido files and Premiere pro is going to raise the ram till the buffer error appears and premiere pro is going to crash. In front of the price that I am going to pay for creative cloud I am very angry that Adobe build such a bug in such a program

I have been having this problem for some time now, where anytime I render a feature-length film, memory fills up until Premiere Pro crashes ... and sometimes the computer locks up (I7 950, 24 GB Ram, 1 TB SSD System Drive, 4 TB Mirror for projects and footage, 4 TB RAID 0 for Scratch & Render Drive, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770). Sometimes I can render 30 to 60 minutes barely scraping by.  But, I can forget trying to render a 90 to 120 movie. I have to split the file into two parts.

To pre-render a timeline, I have to do it in chunks ... safely about 30 minutes at a time, then restart Premiere Pro so my computer can recover some ram, then start again. Because I never know when it may crash and I am back to square one, this is SEVERELY time-consuming, not to mention frustrating.

When I updated PP, whether it be to 2015.3 or 1505.4, to see all my clips, I had to delete the entire cache and re-conform and index EVERY SINGLE FILM or project I am working on. More days lost. Each time I opened, memory would skyrocket. I had to shut Premiere Pro down multiple times on larger projects so it would not crash. One such project was unrecoverable and I had to revert back to an old version, losing an unacceptable amount of time.

Loading the project maxed out memory. Indexing and confirming maxed out memory. Rendering maxes out memory. COME ON!

My reputation is suffering, too. I can't get jobs done on time.

When a producer or Director sits in with me, they shake their heads, amazed as to why I would use Premiere Pro instead of FCP.

I've used Premiere since back in the Elements days. But, I'm finding this agony hard to justify to myself, much less anyone else.

Who QA'd this software? Did you render any feature length movies? Did you use typical plugins and effects throughout?
I'm a programmer, and I would be ashamed of the outcome if I had developed the latest iterations of this software.

How can this be FIXED?

I believe I am having the same problems... my Adobe Premiere CC 2015.4 seems to lock up every time I try and do any work, the memory useage goes through the roof ! And it comes up with a message saying it's stopped working... now I am not very technical mind, so really not sure what to do or try...

Seen a lot of people talking about downloading a older version of Adobe Premiere... but I cant find it anywhere, I looked where suggested in the Creative Cloud, and it's not showing any older versions of Adobe Premiere alas Can anyone actually link me to where I can download CC 2015... ?

Well so far, all i could do was go back to an old version. FORTUNATELY what i do with my main drive is take an image of it with Arconis every 2 weeks. That way, when this happens, and it seems to happen a lot with Adobe, I just restore to a previous version. I am back to the original 2015. BUT still not impressed with the issues in 2015.4. It keeps telling me to update again BUT until they fix this problem I cant afford to... Its not much help now, but for future, I recommend to everyone to do what I do and take an image of their C drive every two weeks for this reason. I have used Acronis for years, very reliable but a lot of other companies like Nortons,  make a similar product.

Hey Mate.... I have tried this and apart from a older version of Lightroom there is no other versions of any of the other softwares I have

Furthermore, I downloaded the latest update 2017... and this seems just as bad... still locking my computer up and massive usage issues... any one actually come up with a solution ? Really bad that Adobe are doing this, charging me for a product that obviously as issues 😕

I found it now... this came about after I got a tech to remote access the PC in question, even though I have now loaded Adobe Premiere 2017, the problem still exists, massive memory usage until the scree just greys out and the software stops working... the Tech couldn't fix the problem, and just declared after a hour of poking around that my PC simply wasn't high enough spec for the job 😕 which sucks as I only got it upgraded about a year ago... and even though it's not a beast like some of you guys, it should be decent enough to run a piece of software like Adobe Premiere... it certainly as been until these last couple recent updates

Anyways the one thing the tech did do was show me how to access other copies of the software... I am actually using another work around right now, which is to QUE the clips I am rendering and use Media Encoder to run them... it's not ideal cause I usually cut them all by hand individually... but hey this might even improve my workflow... lol...

I have been told on another post Adobe should have it fixed by next release, whenever that will be.

Some people seem to have issues when rendering / exporting final edit but i can't even begin an edit as it maxes out memory simple conforming the footage once it's imported. I am going to have to keep using CC 2015 and just update and test it when a new version comes out. 2015 seems ok for me in regard to this issue but other niggly bugs with the audio are annoying me.

If it wasnt for my need of AE and Photoshop I would be using Edius by now.

There is a bug in this version (CC 2015.3) called Memory Leak on MTS files. I also had the same problem while the program was generating peak files for MXF files. This causes the program to use more RAM than it is supposed to, actually huge amounts more. A new version will be released late 2016 with this fixed. I would recommend to download an earlier version of Premiere Pro such as Premiere Pro CC 2015 first release which you can find in the Creative Cloud app. Another workaround is to convert your video material to MP4 before importing it to Premiere, but that is not a good solution I would say. You could also try to disable Premiere from generating peak files which probably would cause the program to use less RAM/memory.

Good luck!

I don't understand. I send an export to the media encoder and close Premiere and I am still getting an out of memory error. Since Premiere is closed, how would the Lumetrics plugin be effecting it. I too am using 2015.3 with mts files.

Since upgrading causes me to have to re-conform (due to having to clear my cache every time I upgrade), and I have to open and close the app multiple times to get it thru without an out of memory crash, I'm scared to upgrade ... particularly when I have a premier scheduled this month on the feature-length film I'm currently working on I could not render it all the way thru today. I had to render an hour of it, then render the last 30 minutes, then place the two exports on the Encore Timeline.

Horrible workflow.

I can confirm since I upgraded to 2017 the memory leak is gone. {Shout for joy!}

Also, out of a 90 minute movie, I only had about three clips I had to fix (dreaded audio Red and inaudible) and a video clip + audio was also red. I avoided clearing the cache (creating all that re-work for all my projects), by moving clearing the offending clip from the project and moving it to another folder. Trying to re-link it or delete and re-import does not work if I leave it in the same hard drive folder.

The video + audio clip was in a folder on another drive.

the Video with the orphaned audio was in a sub-folder, the audio was unlinked.

I hope this information helps someone.

BTW ... my struggle since this 2017 upgrade is my Chapter Markers would not export (not visible in Encore m2T file)
