Premiere Pro forgetting sequence settings

New Here ,
Apr 26, 2018 Apr 26, 2018

Hiya,

Since the update I've noticed that Premiere Pro fails to retain certain settings on sequences and within project files:

1. If I make an adjustment to the audio clip mixer, when I re-open a project these settings will be gone, e.g. if I have set audio levels to a maximum of -8.28 DBs on the audio clip mixer for a sequence, when I re-open that sequence and work on it the setting will return to 0.00 DBs

2. Likewise, if I have applied settings to certain movement effects such as uni.slide or native slide or movement effects within Premiere, these also will be forgotten e.g. if I have a uni.slide effect on a lower third set to "exit left" out of the screen, when I re-open that sequence it will "exit right" instead (the default movement)

I'm not sure what other effects/settings Premiere Pro "forgets" but this is a problem I've only encountered since the update.

Your help would be great appreciated.

Peace,
Chris

Chris,

Does this only happen with updated projects? Try a new project. Same thing happen?

Let us know,

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

It's been a couple of months now and this is still happening (including with new projects).

Specifically the audio clip mixer is still forgetting previous settings.

Thoughts?

Peace,
Chris

Hey Chris,

this happens to me all the time too. I use multiband compressor on clips, close premiere, open up again and the effect still looks like it's there, however isn't actually having any effect. I usually have to remove it (through the remove attributes for a whole bunch of clips) and reapply it to all of them. Incredibly annoying! Has been happening for a few months I think.

Cheers,

Jon

Just to clarify, there is a Clip Mixer, and a Track Mixer.  These are two different things with different uses and behavior.  The Clip Mixer will not affect the sequence at all, only the active clip.

I wonder if you're confusing the two Mixers?

Hi Jim,

It's actually the Track Mixer that I'm referring to:

Hi Jim,

That doesn't appear to be the same issue - I'm having problems when re-opening old projects, rather than duplicating sequences.

i.e. I have a sequence saved in a project (with certain settings applied to the track mixer) and those settings disappear when I reopen that project and then the sequence within it.

Peace,
C

Got it.

I'm between subscriptions at the moment, so unfortunately I can't test this out for you.  Sorry.

Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone could help out with this?

I'm still finding the same issue consistently and it's a pretty big interruption to my workflow - opening a project I recently worked on and finding that the settings for the track mixer have disappeared.

Thanks a lot!

Peace,

Chris

Hi Chris. There are a number of factors that might be influencing this issue. It can stem from the OS you are on, VSTs installed, Premiere version (CC2019) seems to be having this issue.

It is definitely a bug but one that u can troubleshoot pretty easily although not without considerable frustration.

I have seen this on windows machines and not on Mac. I had the opportunity to completely wipe Windows 10, reinstall both OS (Win 7) and PP and presto the issue was gone (this was on a colleagues machine)

I am not advocating you go to such extreme lengths but perhaps an uninstall of PP using Adobes Cleaner Tool, manually remove preferences files before u run the tool and a fresh install of PP.

Let me know how it goes

Hi Mo,

Thanks for the response - I'm not familiar with Cleaner Tool but I've just had a quick read and it seems I'll have to back up a few things (preferences and plug-ins) before I give Adobe an uninstall.

However, I'm not sure what you mean when you say "manually remove preferences files"... my apologies, but I am not especially computer / tech savvy.

Peace,
Chris

LATEST

Hi Chris

Here the links for the Mac and Windows Cleaner Tools

Mac: http://download.macromedia.com/SupportTools/Cleaner/mac/AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.dmg

Win: http://download.macromedia.com/SupportTools/Cleaner/win/AdobeCreativeCloudCleanerTool.exe

Here are locations if you want to remove them manually

  • on Windows: <drive>\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro
  • on Mac OS X: <drive>/Users/<username>Library/Preferences/com.adobe.AdobePremierePro.plist

Once you run the cleaner tool it will remove preferences for you so no need to do it manually if you aren't too sure on how to get to those locations.

Then re-install ad let me know how it goes

Mo
