I have been using Premiere a ton in the last 6 months and over all I really like it, well thought out and great workflow to it. However, wth is going on with the weird non-standard dialog box for starting a project and finding footage!! Why? Why do this to people lol. Number one it does not hold any of what you put in your favorites area of the finder, it just shows the default Home | Desktop etc... I put all my projects in my OneDrive space so I have to navigate that from the root level every time. Why is this such a unique and bad experience in comparision to the rest of the CC suite? Am I just not using it properly?
Name your project, set a path and hit OK.
Import via Project window or Media browser.

For many users, that isn't ... nor was it intended .... as the best way to add media to a project.
Type a Name, select the Location, make sure nothing is "starred" in the middle nor any upper-right options "blue" (active) (and all those are sticky) ... click "Create" and then import from the Project panel or MediaBrowser.
It is however a really good way to add media, especially spanned clips like some Sony's produce, to a current project. It's as good as the MediaBrowser for complex media, and faster to use.
It also has a couple options upper-right that are from the old Prelude program, for like copying media to a location then importing it. At times, that is also useful.
You DO need to unstar everything in the left navigation panel. That's normally "sticky" so once unstarred, it's not a "fav" anymore.

Yes, I get that, I just wish they would keep with the standard import dialog that gives you full access to the structure found in the Finder. Like litterally every other application. Thanks for the response! Maybe as I use it more the way this works will make more sense.

You do have full access to your folder structure as bins, in the process Ann listed. They are now allowing folders even with only one item to be brought it (I think that's made it from public beta now...).
And the Import page has some options upper right ... both to copy to location and such, that I hadn't paid any attention to not having used anything there. But I've realized that some of those options actually are from the capabilities of Prelude, which I used to use A LOT. And miss.
Further, Karl Soule notes in his talks with long-form pros that complex media, especially spanned clips, are handled by the Import page perhaps better than even the MediaBrowser. So if you have spanned Sony files especially, he recommends using the Import page to add media to a current project.
Another use I hadn't known about. They really don't do a great job documenting this app.

Hey @curt.gallery,
Check out the Media Browser. That may have the view you are looking for. Let us know if you need help locating that.
Thanks,
Kevin
