Program monitor goes dark for no apparent reason

  • My Program Monitor just wen dark; not for the first time.
    • In Copy 2, of a new Project, with a single clip, I was fooling with time settings and the "rubber band," then going back to Opacity; which is at 100%
    • The clip displays on the source monitor.
    • I dragged another clip onto the timeline, and later removed both clips, then returned the unedited clip; no change.
    • Oh I also removed the Sound track at tome point.
  • But this same thing has happened in totally different scenarios.
  • The solution, this time, was to simply open Copy 1.
  • I will save "copy 2",so I can go back to it later.
  • What am I missing?

Can you provide us with some screenshots to illustrate the issue you're experiencing?

Hi mikecox_,

We would need more details to get this preview issue checked. Please let us know the system specs (CPU, GPU & RAM). Also, as MarekMularczyk suggested a screen recording or screenshots of your workflow would help us understand the issue better.

Thanks,

Sumeet

  • Here is the data you requested:
    • CPU: ntel(R) Core(TM) i9-10885H CPU @ 2.40GHz (2.40 GHz)
    • GPU: NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000, 6 GB GDDR6
    • Installed Ram: 32.0 GB (31.7 GB
  • But this problem is not universal; i.e. the problem occurs infrequently and only with some proj files, so I doubt professors, or memory, have standing; as it were.
  • That said, is it possible the answer might be found in the file where this has occurred?

  • But, that theory just went south because I just opening the offending proj file and the Prog Monitor is no longer black, as it has been earlier.
  • So I will continue to watch for this issue to come up again, and try to ID the trigger.

I would start with updating the drivers for the GPU: NVIDIA RTX / Quadro Desktop and Notebook Driver Release 470 R470 U18 (475.14) | Windows 11 (This is driver version 475.14)

Does this happen only in Premiere Pro?

I had similar problems some years ago and in my case the monitor went black for a a second here and there in all applications and it turned out that my DisplayPort cable that goes from the GPU to the monitor were bad. Bought a new one that others with the same issue recommended and that solved the issue. It was so long ago, so i don´t remember the brand.
