Project Manager (Unused Clips and Size)

Hi,

I have had an issue with the project manager for months. I have talked to Adobe via chat 4 times but i still don't understand their answers. I would like to add that all of their tech guys i have been dealing with were very rude and not helpful at all! I have to say, it's the first time i'm that pissed off at a company. I really hope Adobe is going to improve their customer service especially with pro (i have 3 accounts with them for our company).

Anyway here is my question!

Before when i was done with my project and I wanted to archive my Final project i was using the project manager. I was using the option "exclude unused clips and was using the option "consolidate and transcode" the project. The final result was an organized folder with a reduced project size (sometimes 3 times less than the original size).

Unfortunately for the past few months i have been doing the same thing but the project size rest unchanged! I'm working with 4k files and the original project is around 130 GB. Please see file attached. I would like to know how you guys archive and how to make the final project smaller and removing the clips not used. Please not that i have tried other preset and formats and still nothing. It looks like it doesn't exclude the unused clips.

Thanks to the community.

See my thread here about Project management Project Manager - Consolidate and Transcode problems

And see if any of those bullet points apply to your project.

Hi jeff,

This is very nice from you to answer. I still don't get it. All my footages are PRORES 422 but when i try to consolidate and transcode via the manager to only use the part of the clip i'm using on my timeline it still copy the full clips. I just want the project manager to copy/trimmed the part of the video i'm using. I'm 99% sure the old premiere version was doing this correctly.

Any help will be really appreciate/

First: What settings are you using for Consolidate and Transcode? Try using the following:

Second: Do any of the bullet points from my other post apply anywhere in your project? For example: have you applied any effects at the master clip level? Do you have any merged or Render and Replace clips? Have you made any Modify - Audio Channel changes?

Any of the above (and more) can result in the full clip copying and not trimming. Try the above settings and see if that works. If not, duplicate a sequence and try to trim it down to the bare minimum and see if that will Consolidate and Transcode correctly.

I would like to know how you guys archive

Immediately after a shoot, all media is first copied from the cards to an external drive, and then copied a second time from the original cards to the internal Media drive.  The external drive remains on a shelf with all media, in perpetuity.  Once editing is finished, the media is deleted from the internal Media drive and I move on to the next project.

The project file and any music used are archived to my internal Projects drive.  Those archived projects are occasionally offloaded to a separate external when more room in needed on the internal.

thanks! I did apply some lumetri colors on the master clips. I just did a quick test and it looks like it is exactly the problem! I can't believe it you saved me so much time and $. Do i just need to apply the LC on each clips used?

I have talked to Adobe a few times and they were so rude and incompetent! So thank you so much Jeff!

Yes, if you apply the same Lumetri effect on each clip (instead of the master) you'll get the same color result and your consolidate and transcode will work.
