"Error Loading Transcode Preset" in Encore CS3 - Visual C to blame ?

This is the first time I'm getting this.

I know there was a major Windows update in the past week.

Now of course, Encore CS3 is not working.

Its giving me the never-before-seen "Error Loading Transcode Preset" when I try and build.

I read somewhere that this might have something to do with a Visual C++ runtime library.

Any ideas?

@davidabrour - I would agree with you if I said I was expecting patches, bugfixes and updates etc. I realize that companies can't support their software forever. But all I am asking for is when I enter the license code it says, "yes this is a valid license, you're activated". According to John T Smith, the activation server is not working.

That seems like a fair request, but to play devil's advocate, those license servers are also things that have to be maintained and supported on Adobe's end, which means they would need patches and updates, etc. Don't forget, running out of date operating systems poses significant security risks. The longer these OSes are around, the more vulnerabilities get discovered. So it's not as straightforward as saying "how come they can't validate my serial number." At some point it becomes irresponsible to be running systems that old in an enterprise IT environment.

I don't know that they can help, but it might be worth reaching out to customer support to see if they have a solution we don't know about.

thanks... I also have Encore CS6, that gives me a different error with the same project: /Blockplanner error.

The CS3 preset I use is the Automatic one: use project settings.

I tried Automatic: SD-MPG2, same error.

I tried right-cliking and choosing Transcode Now..., same error loading preset

I think this has something to do with the Windows update just come out.

In terms of pre-converting them to m2v, is that possible, since there needs to be muxing done inside Encore with the video assets and the audio.

I aslo have individual menu transition video files that would need converting. I wouldn't be sure of what bit rate to encode to. Its a complex project with 30 video + audio assets.

Do you have it set to run with some compatibility setting? I run EN CS6 on Win10 with Win7 compatibility and "as administrator."

thanks, I think if I do that (run as admin) I generally have to re-link all my assets. And it loses the network drive assignments too. Its a big project. I might try that though as my last resort.

Next step is to reinstall Encore. Mayube a dll got upadted during the Windows update?

Are you on Windows 10? Encore CS3 came out 16 years ago so unfortunately, you can't have any expectation that it will run properly on a version of Windows that didn't even exist when the software was released. At some point some update will come out that will break old software.

Given the nature of the error, what if you fed your project already converted files for DVD so Encore doesn't have to transocde? Or what happens if you pick a different preset?
