Been asked to report this separately as a bug, so:

  • Issue - Random crashes since latest macOS update.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro version number: 24.6.1 (Build 2)
  • Operating system - macOS 15.0
  • System Info: CPU, GPU, RAM, HD:
    • M1 Ultra

    • 64GB

    • SSD + external SSDs for media and cache via Thunderbolt

  • Video format: Not dependent on file format - same issue in different projects using various formats including 4K Sony footage down to low-res Zoom recordings.
  • Workflow details: Both in multilayer sequences and projects that are nearly empty/new.
  • Steps to reproduce - (Very important!) Open Premiere, start a new project, start working/importing footage/scrubbing in timeline - CRASH
  • Expected result - No crash
  • Actual result -  Crash... 🙂 Thanks in advance.

Thanks @jamieclarke I did have that ticked. Also I have the send report box ticked and set to not show again, so hopefully it sends one every time by default. I've just upgraded to PP 2025 v25.0.0 build 61 - so far having a nice, smooth crash-free experience with it!

Hi @PDMarsay - In your settings under Audio do you have "Generate waveforms automatically during import" checked or not?  You do receive the adobe crash "send report" dialog box or not?

Thanks @jamieclarke - tried it and it didn't help. I am noticing though that the crashes are frequent after starting a project but tail off. E.g. today I had crashes every couple of minutes when I started a project, but by the end of the day as the project got more complex I was able to work the remaining hours with no crashes. Could it be something to do with the initial cacheing process of files in a new project after import etc?

Hi @PDMarsay - Can you try going to the Effects panel and select the hamburger menu, at the bottom there will be an option to manage video effects.  Can you disable all and let us know if that helps.

Thanks @jamieclarke - full disk access has sorted the permissions popup for now. Disabling plugins one time as you suggested hasn't helped though - it still crashes often.

Don't know what happened but everything looks OK...

Answering your last question about the plugins I have tons and is part of our editing process, color grading, LUTs, transitions, etc... etc... It would be very demanding and caotic to turn off every single one of them...

But for your info, just a minutes ago, I opened Premiere and looks like brand new kind of ask me to log in as the first time I bought it... entered my info and like nothing happenes??? all the recent projects I work in are there, all set ups as well... Hopefully stills like that.

Thanks for your suport.

Try launching without plug-ins, @PDMarsay. Press Shift at launch to get the Reset Options dialog box.

My observation is that certain plug-ins are not working as expected with the new macOS. If you have no plug-ins, try deleting the media cache. Let us know if the advice helps.

I hope the team will respond shortly. Sorry for the hassle.

Thanks,
Kevin

I'm having this same issue. However, it looks like the option to disable third-party plugins one time has helped. I have a bunch of third-party plugins and wonder — is there a faster way than manually enabling/disabling each to discern which one is causing issues?
