I have some clips that were already imported into the Sequence/Timeline and I made a duplicate of the Sequence.
I decided to rename the clips in the Project Panel so they made more sense when working, though they are not updating in either version of the sequence.
1. Is there a way to get them to update the names in the Sequences?
2. Is it a bad idea to rename clips after they are already imported into the Sequence?
Thanks.
It's been moved to the Sequence menu, the wrench icon of the sequence header block.
Top option in the dialog that pops up.

Go to File > Project Settings > General and check the box for Display the project item name and label color for all instances:

Interesting, I would have never found that...
Is there a reason it is not on by default? Is there a reason you don't want to rename clips after importing them?
Thanks.

If I had a clip in the Project Panel named "BC interview at airport" and I wanted to name the extracted section on the timeline "talks about childhood", I would not want the name of the clip in the project panel changed.
It's your choice as to the way Premiere handles the clip names/labels, which ever you prefer.

While this was the solution in past versions, see Neil's response. It is the correct answer for the current version.
Thanks,

Same question, but the answer provided in 2019 no longer appears relevant: "Display the project item name and label color for all instances" is no longer in the Project Settings / General. Other solutions?

Thanks! Oof: should have been able to find that myself. Really appreciate the help!

It's kinda frustrating when suddenly something you use is somewhere else.
And in this complex app, there are SO many other places it could be ... jeepers.
