Screen Tearing XAVC S 4K 422 10bit

I switched up my settings on my Sony FX3 to XVAC S 4K 422 10 bit before visiting DC with my daughter.  I took a ton of footage using this setting, only to come home, upload everything to premiere and discover that there is a TON of screen tearing happening.  At first I thought it was just Premiere being problematic w/ playback, but even after exporting, it shows up in the file.

Camera - Sony FX3

Laptop - MacBook Pro Apple M1 16 Gig

Please help,  I've googled to the end and back.

Great to know that 4 years later this is still an issue. BS

Hi @ItsVIP,

Thanks for raising this.

Could you please share a few problematic media files along with your machine details? We've addressed several similar issues in the past and received confirmation from multiple users that those fixes resolved their problems.

Additionally, we recommend checking the latest beta build to see if the issue persists there.
We’d be more than happy to investigate further once we have more information.

Thanks,
Mayjain

Having the same issue on my M1 with a 10bit a7siii footage. Screen tearing during timeline playback and also is baked in on export. This is unacceptable from a pro software. Needs to be fixed asap. Trying to figure out the best option for now. Tried downgrading but same problem appears.

Hello !

I am currently experiencing the same Screen Tearing (or glitch) issue
on my mac Mini M1. I solved the problem by rendering on my old Macbook Pro. There is a problem with the management of the 10 bit codec on M1 by Adobe Première!

Same issue with image tearing in Premiere Pro: M1 Macbook Pro, footage from Sony A7sIII.

This issue started when I updated to the lastest version of Premiere Pro. Transcoding did not solve the problem. I then downgraded to 15.4.2 and the issue was resolved.

Downloaded the Beta version, still having the same issue.

How can i share sample media?

I have the same problem. I also use a Sony FX3, Im running a mac mini (latest intel, NOT M1) with 32gb ram. I cant get any of my 422 10bit footage to playback in premiere. I cant even preview the footage. Even when i make proxy files to the lowest possible resolution it still doesnt play. I havent tried using an old version yet but i know that final cut and resolve can play 422 10bit with no problem.

Any update on when adobe is going to solve this issue?

I stopped shooting in 10bit to avoid this issue which is unfortunate because im not getting the most of my camera 😞

Nope, but I can tell you it does not fix the gliching with the M1 Macs, still happens. I was really hoping the next update from Adobe would fix this as they say the devs know about it. Come Adobe please fix this glich ASAP.

Can you clarify what kind of glitches you are experiencing, please?

If you shoot on a Sony A7SIII in XAVC 10 bit you get these weird non consistent glitches that are transparent but shift the video around.

I have been having the same issues as all of you on this. One workout around that I have been doing is transferring the project over to a non-M1 chipped computer.  I have the same messed up glitch versions rendering and exporting on the M1 iMac, but when I plug the project into my 2019 Macbook Pro, I am able to export a clean file at least. No downgrading neccesary.

Hope the M1 patch comes soon and we can all continue using Premiere as it is intended to.

What happens if you boot into Rosetta on your M1, Hennie? That might save you a round trip to another computer. Let us know.

Thanks,
Kevin

My other computer is open and running right on my desk. I just switch a cord over rather than reboot my computer into a totally different setup.

It's a pretty painless process, obviously not perfect, but it works for the interim while we wait for an update on premiere to make this issue go away.

Haven't seen this problem before -- I'm exporting a 4K video using the most updated version of Premiere Pro and regardless of my export settings, or if I use Media Encoder, the exported video has random screen tears in the video. If I export it again using the exact same settings, the tears will appear in different spots of the video. If I change the export settings (experimenting with lower bit rates, or disabling "render at maximum bit depth" etc) then it will still tear the video in random places.

I even tried re-exporting a project I did a few weeks ago (using the previous release of Premiere) and it does the same thing. So, it's not the footage that's corrupt.

The common denominator seems to be that this new version of Premiere isn't exporting my videos correctly.

Specs: Premiere 15.4.0 / Mac Big Sur 11.4 / Macbook Pro M1 16GB Ram

HALP!

Hi JT5CEF,
It's a known issue that the engineers are working on right now. XAVC 10 bit footage issues. You can roll back to an earlier version to get the work down. You can also use an 8 bit format until it gets fixed. Any existing footage? I would stay with 15.2 until this gets fixed. Sorry.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks Kevin. I tried rolling back to 15.2 but my project file is saved in 15.4 so it wouldn't open. Is there a way to downconvert the project file? Otherwise, I think I'd have to rebuild the edit completely in 15.2... maybe I'm missing something.

Good news is that I solved my problem by upgrading to 15.4 on my iMac Pro and was able to export from there without any issues. Seems like it's specific to 10 bit footage on Premiere running on an M1 Mac I take it?

Thanks for following up though. I appreciate it!
