SRT File Export Issues

I'm editing in Premiere 2024 and have a UHD 23.976 sequence that I'm exporting. Sequence timecode start is at 00:00:00:00 and ends at 01:01:36:07. I've got closed captioning files that play in sync with the image in Premiere, with final caption ending at 01:01:33:23. But when I export SRT files as sidecar files and open them up to check them in TextEdit, they have the final caption ending at 01:01:37,652, which is a) different and b)exceeds my video file length. And if I import the SRT file back into Premiere it identifies it in the project window as having a duration of 01:01:37:19 and being a 30.00 fps file. Am I missing something obvious? Why is this all so out of whack?

Hi there, @bfox411,

I'm sorry you're experiencing this issue with your SRT export in Premiere Pro 2024. I'm glad you were able to work around the issue, but, I hope the team can find a fix for you. The issue sounds frustrating, especially when everything seems to sync with the project. Before proceeding, you may want to review the user guide on the topic.

Please provide the product team with more information about your system, media, and workflow. They prefer bug reports be written in the following format. See, How do I write a bug report?

Here are a few other things you might want to check:

  • Frame Rate Mismatch: There might be a frame rate mismatch between your sequence and the exported SRT file. Ensure that the frame rate settings for your sequence and the export settings match exactly.
  • Timecode Settings: Double-check the timecode settings in your sequence and export settings. Differences in how time codes are interpreted can sometimes cause a mismatch.
  • Export Settings: Review all the settings under the Captions tab to ensure they align with your sequence settings.
  • Software Update: Ensure you have the latest Premiere Pro updates installed. Updates often fix bugs and improve functionality.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, you might want to contact Adobe Support and ask for the "video queue" for more detailed assistance. They can provide specific guidance based on your project settings.

I hope this helps, and I appreciate your patience as you work through this!

Best regards,

Kevin

Well I figured out a workaround. Rather than exporting the closed captions as sidecar files in the media export window, I opened them in the Premiere captions editor and exported them from there as a txt file, and then used a free online txt to srt converter to make the SRT. This is one of those Premiere bugs that makes me feel gaslit and wastes an afternoon.🤪
