You can open the Captions Panel. Go to File New Captions and in the pop up menu go to the drop down for captions type and choose "Open Captions."

This will place a file in your project panel. You can take the file from your project panel and place it at above your other video layers.

You can open the Captions Panel. Go to File New Captions and in the pop up menu go to the drop down for captions type and choose "Open Captions."

This will place a file in your project panel. You can take the file from your project panel and place it at above your other video layers.

When this is done you can type in the first sub title, set the start and end time of that sub title. You can click the plus button on the bottom of the Captions panel and add another sub title. You will need to set the start and end time for that sub title. You would stretch the sub title layer across all of the footage that you need sub titles on. You should do this with the selection tool/triim right edge of the caption layer.

This will place the standard closed caption look on the lower third your screen. You can change the back ground to a transparency or different color, you can also change the font and color and add an edge/stroke to your text. This is a standard look. Perhaps others may have suggestions on the text "look."

Yes,  you need to manually enter the time of the subtitles in the captions panel.

Open captions is for subtitles. The other options are for true closed captions for use with a device/player  that has a closed captions button.

ok i see in vimeo i can upload a file for subtitles

Now i have created a subtitles track using open subtitles in premeire

And this will not let me export the subtitlres separately

I should create a cea608 track for it, right?

is there a way to quick copy all the subtitles from the opencaption track to the new one?
