Text Based Editing on M2 freezes

New Here ,

Hi,
I'm experiencing severe performance issues with Premiere Pro's text-based editing workflow. Here's my setup:

  • Premiere Pro: v25.1.0 (Build 73) via Creative Cloud

  • Mac: MacBook Pro M2, 32 GB RAM

  • macOS: Sequoia 15.0.1

  • Drive: Project running on Samsung T9 (USB 3.2 Gen 2x2)

  • Internet: 89 Mbit/s down, 100 up

Problem:

After just a few minutes of using the Text panel (transcript editing or creating rough cuts), performance drops or stops totally:

UI becomes unresponsive

Follow Active Monitor” starts lagging

Text panel freezes totally
Closing/reopening Premiere is the only temporary fix

This happens on projects with:

  • Only 2 video layers

  • No effects

  • Third-party plugins disabled

  • No other apps running (just Chrome)

  • External displays disconnected

I’ve already tried:

  • Updating to latest Premiere Pro + macOS

  • Holding Option at launch and resetting prefs/caches

  • Deleting leftover files from old versions of premiere

  • Turning off plugins and media cache

  • Running from internal SSD and T9 — no difference

  • Testing with and without “Follow Active Monitor”

  • Closing other panels like Lumetri, Captions, etc.

I have tried everything an can think of right now i need to restart every 10 min or so, any help appriciated

I´m in a hurry. /best Niclas

Thanks for reaching out. To troubleshoot your issue:

- How long is the footage you are using in TBE?
- Can you check if you have any extensions installed (usually they should be in '~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions' or in '/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CEP/extensions'). You would also see them in the Windows->extensions menu.
- If there are any, try deleting (or renaming) that extensions folder and check if the issue persists.

If that doesn't help - can you reach out to

Thanks for reaching out. To troubleshoot your issue:

If that doesn't help - can you reach out to me via PM and potentially send me a copy of your project (without media)? The transcripts would be included in the project file but that might be helpful to do more troubleshooting on our side.

Great! there was some random extensions there, insta 360 among others. Deleted them all and now everything runs smooth! Can´t thank you enough! I thought by disabling 3rd-party plugins or what it says when starting holding option on start up would mean the same, so i ruled that one out. You also fixed my not at all working export tab-I´ve been using send to media encoder for months, now that also works!

Try even without Chrome running. Make sure the top tab Shows Premiere Pro

active and not Chrome as sometimes I experienced issues with Chrome active

even though I'm inside Premiere Pro.

But this may not be the culprit as I'm also experiencing lot of issues and instabilities

with text and its properties in general, UI becoming unresponsive and the only solution

is restarting Premiere Pro V25.0.0 build 61 on my late 2016 Macbook Pro.
