The Ripple Edit [ B ] tool no longer works the same in Premiere 25.6

Explorer ,
Nov 21, 2025 Nov 21, 2025

Am running Premiere 25.6.1 [ Build 2 ]

The Rippled Edit ( B ) tool no longer works the same way that it's always done.  With the tool selected and you move the track, it slides/moves the clip dynamically on the timeline, similar to the Slip ( Y ) tool, and this is hurting my muscle memory ... badly to give me an anxiety attack.  I have used the Ripple Edit tool for 20+ years, and I fear that this isn't a bug, but a deliberate change.

If you're trying to edit based on audio waveforms, it's particularly bad as it's hard to see the leading edge of the waveform against the cut point. Is there a setting to revert this to the way it's literally been for 20 years.  Please don't break my muscle memory, Adobe. Please!

thanks.

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

I read your issue and I think I know what you are seeing. It's a recent design change that I also noticed. I will ask the team to be sure.

Thanks,
Kevin

Thanks Kevin ... appreciated, it would be nice if there was a setting so you could choose between which way you wanted to it behave.   What i find intruinging in all these sitations, is that that Ripple took has worked in a way that I have been accustomed to for 20+ years, and now suddenly ... boom it's changed!

imagine getting into your car one morning to drive and someone says "No, the steering wheel is on the other side now", and it's just changed.  20 years of using something that you're complete used to, and it just get flipped to work differently - madness.

Would love to know if it can be set back to how it's always been - kind thanks.

Geoff

I also am not a fan of how ripple edit works in the new edit - there definitely should be an option to change back to the old version of it.

Thanks for posting this so I don't feel like a crazy person. My software must have updated last night because everything was fine yesterday and then today its slipping and sliding around like a giraffe on ice and I was wondering what I did wrong to cause this, been googling for the last half hour and now I know they changed it on us! I agree we need to have a setting so we can have it back the orginal way because this is throwing off my groove. And yes I do a lot of editing based off of audio waveform and this makes it way more inconvenient! Please adobe change it back or give us a setting to switch it back please.

Just chiming in as I too noticed the change and the new ripple edit is making it much harder to adjust clips with the way its so free form. It used to snap to where my playhead was on the timeline.

Totally agree with you on this one. Don't like the way it's moving now. Feels like the slip tool. I need to say where my 'ripple-cut' goes. The dynamic way of sliding makes it unconvienent.

Same for me!!! I feel in the exactly same way. Very difficult to use ripple edit tool now. The previous version was perfect. Please give us a toggle in preferences to use the "legacy" mode at least!

YES. Can we please GO BACK to the legacy Ripple Edit tool? I just updated my Premiere and it was soooo confusing. I always ripple edit based on where my playhead is and now it's almost impossible and leaves me guessing where my cut goes! I had to downgrade to older versions because I can't work like that.

Same for me: I used it in combination with playhead and it was amazing! Please give us the possibility to choose between the new and legacy version!

YES. Can we please GO BACK to the legacy Ripple Edit tool? Or offer a change to remove the "slip" feature. VERY hard to use.
