The slider has an extra bit on it and I don't know how it got there.

The slider used to mark stuf has an extra long bit at the end of it and I'm not sure how it appeared or how to get rid of it could someone explain to me what it is used for and how to get rid of it.

That's the CTI or "current time indicator", also called the playhead.

That bar is there because you have your sequence really zoomed in, and it's showing you the length in time on the sequence for the current frame. Note, the CTI is always "before the next frame".
