Time keeps reverting to zero after adding markers

I am adding markers to a clip in the source monitor panel with the waveform view, to mark where speech appears vs. music. Every time I add a marker, the current time pointer reverts to 00:00 and I lose my place. I have to go searching through the markers and try to find where I last was.

Why does the timeline revert to zero when adding a marker in waveform view? Is this a bug?

When I change back to the video view and add a marker, the current time does not revert to zero.

Try resetting the preferences:

If that doesn't work, try resetting the Workspaces:
Reset a workspace
Reset the current workspace to return to its original, saved layout of panels.
1. Do one of the following:
• Click the Workspace menu icon and select Reset to Saved Layout.
• Choose Window > Workspace > Reset to Saved Layout.

Thank you @Peru Bob for the suggestions. I was inspired to try this, which worked: create a new project and import the video to add markers to; the problem was no longer present!

I also tried the option to reset the workspace which didn't work.

I chose not to try trashing preferences, because I didn't want to lose my settings just yet, but it sounds like that would have worked for the original project, so I'll keep that trick in my back pocket.
