Depends. You can always hit the 'enter' key causing PrPro to render into previews that section of the timeline. First, you might want to go into Sequence Settings, and select for previews something that plays back easily ... such as Cineform YUV, DNxHD/R, or ProRes (the latter only on Mac).
Past that, there's all sorts of things ... how about giving us some needed info?
OS/CPU/RAM/GPU/vRAM ... the version of PrPro (NOT latest!) ... how many of what types of drives you have on the computer, the type of media used such as DSLR 4k & 1080 mov or something like that, and what effects you're using.
