Top and Tail edit and multiple video tracks

Hi!

The main problem is: I come from FCPx and it was super easy ! everything was really much easier. But since I left Apple forever and back to windows, .. here I am ! And I'm sure Premiere Pro comes not only more difficulties but also more possibilities.

Situation:  I have 2 or more video tracks. Let's say 2.  V1 and V2.  They don't have the audio, I just need the video and I didn't import the audio in the timeline.

I have a soundtrack on A2 (A1 was used for a video with audio at the beginning of the sequence).

I want to perform a Top and Tail trim on a video on the V2.

I select V2 track. I select my clip on the V2 Track,

I press Q or W to edit, and ... it edits through all the video tracks !! the video on V1 is trimmed and the soundtrack on A2 is trimmed as well.

How does it work? what is the matter with the tracks?  what do the Video and Audio tracks selectors do ? if I click on all of them or none of them, nothing changes in the behaviour of ... everything I do.

arrgh!

I'm following Lynda.com for studying it, and can't find an answer there nor everywhere else.

well .. thankyou !:)

    Correct answer Ann Bens

Q and W do exactly what they supposed to do: ripple trim previous/next cut to playhead.

I often use Q and W only on a single track.

For multitrack make sure you target the correct track and use shift+Q/W

    okay thank you everyone!

@Ann Bens you got it right, I had to add the SHIFT key. Alright, thank you. But it's still stupid ... why isn't it the default method? when does anybody want to trim through all the tracks??

shooternz  I don't know the other way you described,  but I'm going to dig into it !

    thank you everybody again

    bye!

yes Q and W for top tail edit, found at lynda.com and on every googled page.

    I don't know other ways ...

but the track selection doesn't work. Either I select V2 only or all the video tracks, the edit pass through all the tracks, not only the selected one.

I created a screen capture here

    Strange

Q and W for me are GOTO In or Out Points respectively.

Even my Logic Keyboard Keys show this.

@O.P  Saw your video.  I dont cut that way.

I use Q and W to go to In or Out on the clip...

The I  use Trim Modes > Toggle to the Mode I wanted and drag with a mouse edit...

or  Edit to Play head via Trim mode of choice

Read up on Premiere Track Targeting.

This is the method to choose which Tracks are affected by actions such as Trimming copy and Pasting etc

FWI there are many other ways of Trimming apart from using Keyboard shortcuts.  Sometimes these are quicker that track selection.

Q and W seem strange edit shortcuts?
