Trademark symbols in Essential Graphics

I am having a problem with Essential Graphics bringing trademark symbols from AE into PP.

I format the text and symbols in AE and save it as Essential Graphics so I can use it in PP but when I insert it into PP the symbols change to the same size as the other text. I have tried using both superscript and manually sizing the symbols in AE but they both seem to revert back to the surrounding text size.

Has anyone else seen this or know of a workaround? I can't manually create them (separate from the sentence text) because text position can't be adjusted once it's an EG. I am at a loss...

Thanks everyone!

Chris

Hey @Cad81

Sorry you're running into trouble. Can you tell me what version of After Effects you are using, what OS you are on, and the steps you take to create trademark symbols in your mogrts? A video or screenshots are always helpful if you're able.

In AE 24.2.1x2/23.4.0x53, I'm able to add the trademark symbol via copy/paste from the character map. This exports to Premiere Pro where the rest of the text can be modified, or another special character can be added in. They also scale proportionally when using font properties font size adjustment.

Some caveats with this method: your editors will have to know to copy/paste or use alt+code/opt+code to add in the symbol they need. Some fonts don't support all special characters, so if you add in a font controller, the symbol may disappear. A comment with the alt codes for the different symbols will be useful here.

Another method if the symbol is always at the start or end of a line of text is to bake in the necessary symbols using a font that supports all of the symbols you require, use expressions to make sure they align & scale with your text, and use a dropdown to toggle between what the editor needs. This way, the editor can never erase the symbol by accident.

Thanks,

Theresa

Thank you Theresa,

I did another post before finding this, you can find it here: Registered trademark symbol in superscript style (... - Adobe Community - 14487890

The problem occur in both AE and PR, i always had this issue in all versions and different OS (win 7/10/11) and different PC (colleagues).

No matter if i copy/paste from char map, alt+code, windows+dot shortcut or copy/paste from web...that symbol is always sized as a regular character. Instead, with the TM symbol, it works fine.

I use a lot the registered trademark, so it's quite annoying (for example, copy/paste a lot of reference informations of a product, i have to check them manually one by one). When using mogrph animation in premiere, i have to open AE, edit the text and export it as a video file, reimport, etc...it's a lot of time.

At the moment, i cannot make a recording, i'll do it asap

Thanks for your help 🙂

Is there any solution yet? I'm running into the same issue. (PP13.1)

I can't say that there is  a solution since it is not a bug we have seen internally. (it sounds like Kevin is helping with that though.. thanks Kevin!)

As a workaround, when authoring the mogrt in Ae, add source text to the EGP, click edit properties then add Font + Font Size controls. This way, if you see text changing size when the mogrt gets applied, you can set it back to what you want. Similarly, you can apply scale and position controls to help you adjust things back in pr's EGP. It's not ideal... certainly not a fix, but it should get you going.

Hi Kevin,

yes, I am. I am able to format the text fine in Ae but when I bring it into Pr it looses its formatting.

I am running CC2017 on both programs.
