Transfer names of AE linked comps

Community Beginner ,

hi, dear community!

I wish you all the best.

I have a very specific question.

I work in PP CC 2017.1 on PC.

When I work on a project, I always do a bunch of AE linked comps (titles, lower 3-rds, color corrections, some effects, etc.)

Usually, it's about 60-80 comps, and so I rename them in AE to organize workspace.

For example, I do a link from PP and the linked comp inside PP have a name MEKF_2019 Linked Comp 61/mekf2019_ae.aep

Then I rename it in AE for, like, TITLE_61.aep, but inside PP naming remains the same.

The question is: can I transfer the names I give to linked comps from AE to PP?

It's really not the best option to rename them by hand twice, and without renaming it really gets messy:)

I hope I was clear enough. Looking forward to hearing a possible solution!

Do your renaming before you create the Dynamic Link.

Dear Jim, thanks for your answer!

I can't seem to understand what you suggest, though:)

For example, I add a piece of footage to the timeline.

Then I right-click on a piece of footage on a timeline and choose "replace with after effects composition" from the drop-down menu.

And then It automatically names itself as (for example)  BLAH_BLAH Linked Comp 01/blahblah_ae.aep

How can I rename it before? IS there any other way to create a dynamic link that I'm not aware of?

For footage, you can rename the clip in the sequence before you send it over.  You'll get the "linked comp" part, that's unavoidable. But the Blah-Blah will be what you want.

For titles and lower thirds, start in AE and name them there, then bring them into the PP project.

I have noticed this behavior as well.

One thing you can do (after renaming the composition in Ae), is to drag & drop the Comp from Ae back into PPro. That will essentially create a new copy (new dynamic link), which will then have the appropriate name. However, it also means you have to replace the assets in your project.

I know this is an old thread; but this seems like a related question.

I have a project in which I need to export chapters separately and also as a single file.
I have each chapters' AE comp linked in my Premiere project. I name the chapter comps in AE the way I want them to be named when published individually. In Premiere, the automatic naming convention for linked comps is: "COMPNAME/AEfilename.aep".

However, when I try to export these chapter comps separately (via rightclicking them in the project menu); the automatic name in the export dialog is "AEfilename.aep".
Is there a way to make Premiere (or Media Encoder Queue) default to the COMPNAME instead when exporting a sequence that is a (linked comp)?

Thanks!

export to Media Encoder straight from After Effects if there is no need for dynamic linking with Premiere Pro other than to export your after effects comps individually. Media Encoder will preserve comp naming
