Transfering Projects between new/old versions

I work with a team of editors who all use their own computers - all our media, projects, and editing files are housed on various external hard drives which we share.

I recently tried to open a project that I need to change for a client, but the last person to use it had updated their Premiere, so I got the "This project was last opened using a newer version of premiere...etc." message. I can't open it unless I update my own version.

I would be fine with updating in order to be able to access this project, but I still have other editing projects in-progress that have been started with my current version of Premiere. I am afraid that if I update, I will no longer be able to access or work on my existing projects that were started with my current (older) version of the software. This would be a disaster.

Can somebody please advise on whether updating will cause this issue? Thanks for your time.

When you install the newest version, go to the advanced options and uncheck remove old versions.

This will result in both the current version and the newer version being installed.

You can keep this configuration until the changes are made and then uninstall the newer version to continue working with the older version (or keep both).

While having multiple versions of premier installed on the same system, you will have to manually keep track of which PR project corresponds to which PR version.

Have the last editor export the project in his last updated version as an xml for you to open.

Hi Ann

Thanks for the suggestion - wish it was possible.

My colleague who edited the project won't be back in the office with her computer until Tuesday (4 days away). I need to get this completed for the client today. I need to figure out a way that I can do it myself.

You have no choice but to update.

Which current version are you using now.
