I tried applying a Gradient wipe to the beginning of a clip (single clip) It was too quick so I dragged the transition to make it longer. But instead of slowing down the transition just multiplied, playing quickly twice instead of slowly once. How can I fix it so that I can make the transition longer?
Just installed Premiere onto a new Alienware computer.

Hi josephhubbard,
Sorry to hear about this. Try deleting the transition and apply it again. Then double click on the Gradient Wipe transition on the clip and set the transition duration.
Once done, check if it's working properly. If you are still experiencing the issue try switching the Renderer to
Mercury Playback Engine Software Only and render the sequence (Sequence > Render In to Out).
Let us know if it helps.
Thanks,
Sumeet

Sorry, it's still not working. And other wipes are playing up in the same way - and other ways - for example the paint splatter is quickly zooming a coloured square on the playback screen towards me.
But a fade works perfectly
